The Philadelphia Eagles Are the Only Undefeated Team in the NFL, but They Aren’t the Favorites to Win the Super Bowl
The Philadelphia Eagles have as good of a case as anyone to be considered the best team in the NFL this season. Philly is the only undefeated team left at 7-0, it currently ranks second in the league in average scoring margin (+11.1), and it’s the only team in the NFL that hasn’t trailed once in the second half.
The Eagles seem to be on the fast track toward the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a conference championship appearance, but they aren’t the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl. In fact, they’re not even that close.
The Eagles aren’t Super Bowl favorites despite their 7-0 record
It’s been a dream start to the 2022-23 NFL season for the Eagles.
Philadelphia hasn’t lost through its first seven games of the year, and there haven’t been many scares, either. The Eagles have won five of their seven games by more than seven points, and they haven’t played a single snap in the second half in which they weren’t leading in the game.
Despite their dominance early in the season, though, the Eagles aren’t the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2023. That title belongs to the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills are 6-1 through seven games, and if you take out their puzzling loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, they’ve been even more dominant than the Eagles this year. Buffalo currently ranks first in the NFL in scoring margin (+15.0), first in DVOA, and second in net yards per play (4.73).
As of this week, the Bills are the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl at +230 odds. The Eagles are second at +550, and the Kansas City Chiefs are right behind at +700.
Even though the AFC will be tougher to navigate in the playoffs, the Bills are +125 to win the AFC, while the Eagles are +190 to win the NFC. The betting market is infatuated with the Bills this season, so the Eagles could go 17-0 and still enter the playoffs behind Buffalo in the Super Bowl odds.
