As it becomes more common for NFL players to keep playing into their 30s, Nacua wants to do the opposite.
“I know I want to retire at the age of 30,” Nacua told the Join The Lobby podcast.
Nacua cited how his former teammate and future first-ballot Hall of Famer walked away at a young age. In a perfect world, Nacua plans to do the same.
“I’m 23 right now. I’m going into year three. It wouldn’t even be 10 years,” Nacua said. “It’d be maybe seven or eight. I think of Aaron Donald, to go out at the top, I think it would be super cool.”
The All-Pro receiver also wants to have a big family and remain active in his kids’ lives. Nacua fears that if he plays too long, it will take a toll on his body and affect him during fatherhood.
“I want to have a big family,” Nacua said. “I want to have at least a starting five. I came from a big family so I need five boys, for sure. But also, like, I want to be able to be a part of their lives and be as active as I can with them.
“The injuries are something you can’t control, part of the game, so you never know. Hopefully, the rest of the career can go healthy, but you have shoulder surgery, you have knee surgery, you have ankle. [surgery] By the time my kids could be 18, I could be barely walking if you play the game and sustain all the injuries and stuff like that, but I want to retire early.”

Nacua heads into year three as the Rams’ No. 1 wide receiver.
Nacua set NFL records for most receptions (105) and receiving yards (1,486) as a rookie during the 2023 season.
Despite missing six games during the 2024 season, Nacua led the Rams with 79 catches and 990 yards. Nacua also added three receiving touchdowns.
After considering a quarterback change, the Rams and Matthew Stafford agreed to a contract extension that keeps him in LA for at least one more season.
The Rams also released Super Bowl LVI Cooper Kupp, who signed with the Seahawks. To replace Kupp, the Rams signed Davante Adams to a two-year contract.
