Macklin Celebrini

San Jose Sharks rookie center Macklin Celebrini had a terrific November.  He played 14 games, scoring 7 goals and 5 assists.  He is helping the Sharks team which got off to a slow start (0-7-2 in the first nine games) to a 9-13-5 record.  The Sharks are playing with excitement and confidence, riding a two game winning streak.

Celebrini’s efforts to lift the Sharks, including a game winning goal against the Los Angeles Kings, in the month of November earned him the NHL’s Rookie of the Month award.  On top of that, Macklin Celebrini was named NHL’s 1st star of the week.

Celebrini’s game far exceeds his age.  The 18 year old reminded us he is still a teenager while sharing his thoughts about being the 1st star of the week.

What Macklin Celebrini Brings To The Ice

Broadcaster Brodie Brazil shared his observations about Celebrini on Twitter.  While others call Celebrini the whole package, Brazil broke down what that means.

His list included but was not limited to:

Always skating
Playmaking with head up
The no-look wrister is like a cheat code
He’s physical: even throws reverse hits
Not afraid to hold, protect puck

Many NHL fans marvel at what a thinker he is on the ice, often appearing to think 4-5 shots in advance.  Others wonder if he is this good now, what will he be like at 25.

These honors are well-deserved for Celebrini.  The first overall pick of the 2024 NHL Draft is an early favorite for the Calder Trophy, the same award his 2023 first overall pick, Connor Bedard, won last season.
