It all comes down to the Season 5 finale.
The stage is set for the rescue mission. The Hawkins gang plans to allow Henry to bring the Upside Down closer to the real world. When it reaches the top of the radio tower, the crew can climb into the Abyss.
Then, Eleven can rescue the children and defeat Vecna. Before they leave, the group plans to drop a bomb in the Abyss to destroy the Upside Down and close the bridge.
It’s a dangerous plan that could result in several deaths.
The odds-on favorite to die is Eight (-317), aka Kali. In Season 5, Kali and Eleven learned that the military has been attempting to create more powerful children to use as weapons. The military uses Eight and Eleven’s blood to do it. To end the cycle, Kali suggests that she and Eleven must remain in the Upside Down when the bomb goes off.
Eleven (+300) agreed to Kali’s plan for now. However, Eleven might have another plan that will be revealed in the episode.
Besides the two telekinetic children, Nancy Wheeler (+194) is at the top of the list to die. In Volume 2, Nancy broke up with Jonathan and showed off her shooting prowess. Clearly, Nancy will do whatever it takes to save Holly, even if it costs her own life.
Other Stranger Things Characters in the Mix to Die
Per usual, Jim Hopper (+488) finds himself toward the top of the list. Hopper has had a death wish since the series began. The Hawkins police chief’s death would not come as a surprise.
Scott Clarke (+488) is an interesting wrinkle to the list. Mr. Clarke clearly has a special connection with Dustin. If push comes to shove, would Mr. Clarke sacrifice himself to save Dustin?
Is this the season Steve Harrington (+567) makes the ultimate sacrifice? If Steve dies, it might become the most emotional passing of the series.
