The Kansas City Chiefs were every bit of a disappointment in Super Bowl LIX. They were only favored by a single point over the Eagles, but Philadelphia wound up defeating them in blowout fashion, ending Kansas City’s bid to be the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls. Travis Kelce was particularly ineffective during the contest, but kept things in perspective as he spoke about his experiences on Wednesday.

Travis Kelce Talks Super Bowl, Keeps Things In Perspective

The Chiefs tight end had the worst season of his career since becoming a start in terms of production. He racked up just 823 receiving yards despite seeing the 6th-most targets he ever has, and his 3 touchdowns were his fewest since his rookie year, when he didn’t play a single offensive snap. But there was hope that Kelce would be able to step his game up in the Super Bowl like he did in Kansas City’s first playoff game against the Texans.

He didn’t. He finished the first half with zero catches, ending the game with a four reception, 39 yard stat line. His team was down 34-0 at one point, and most of his limited catches came when the Chiefs were in desperation mode. Kelce has never been known as a blocking tight end, but even his effort in that aspect came into questions during post-game film study.

The loss certainly stings for a team looking to prove itself as the game’s latest dynasty. But time is of the essence for Travis Kelce, and there have been rumblings about him potentially coming up on the end of his playing career in the near future. It would be understandable if he were still frustrated in the days after the loss, but the 35-year-old kept things in perspective during this week’s episode of his podcast, ‘New Heights.’

“This game, you know, it’s just our job. My life is still beautiful. I come home to an amazing household of family and friends who love me. That’s the beauty of going through a hard time like this. I can still have happiness and still have an amazing time in life even when something like this happens because I have the support that I do.”

He would go on to say that the loss would bother him plenty in the coming months, but that he is doing his best to put it in the back corner of his mind to deal with at another point in time.

Travis Kelce is famously in a relationship with one of the biggest pop stars in the world in Taylor Swift, and has loving parents who have supported him throughout his career. The podcast that he does with his older brother is one of the most popular media entities in existence right now.

There has been no indication from the man himself that he is contemplating retirement this off-season. As far as his contract is concerned, he has one year left on his current deal.
