Rich Eisen interviewed Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett at the Super Bowl. It was Garrett‘s first public appearance since he announced on Monday via social media that he had asked the Browns for a trade.

Garrett was respectful and honest while sharing new information on how he reached the difficult decision to leave Cleveland which he considers his second home.

Here is what Browns and NFL fans learned.

1. Garrett Consulted With Family And Friends, Including LeBron James

Myles Garrett conferred with his agents, parents, and sister and even spoke with LeBron James, a former Cleveland Cavalier and Ohio native.  When Eisen asked what he and LeBron discussed, Garrett said he asked King James what a transition to another team and city is like.  Garrett said LeBron was an encouraging voice.

2. Garrett Had Multiple Discussions With Browns’ Management

Myles Garrett said he spoke with Browns’ management several times, including the season-ending exit interview.  He respects the organization but believes the window to win a Super Bowl is shorter for him as he enters his 9th NFL season.  Garrett inferred a belief that the Browns’ path to a Super Bowl would take longer.

3. Garrett Was Noncommittal On What Happens If He Isn’t Traded

Averting speculation that he is seeking money, Myles Garrett was clear that his goal is to be traded. Success and individual accolades are not as gratifying as competing for a Super Bowl.  When asked by Eisen what would happen if the Browns did not trade him, Garrett chose not to speculate that far down the road with so many unknowns in the future.  He mentioned the unpredictability of sports citing the shocking Luka Doncic trade that shocked the sports world earlier this week.

Myles Garrett is winning the public relations battle with the Browns, who have said little except reiterate that they have no plans to trade him.
