The Khamzat Chimaev next fight sees ‘Borz’ challenge Dricus du Plessis for the UFC Middleweight Title at UFC 319.
After submitting Robert Whittaker inside one round at UFC 308, Chimaev gets his shot at du Plessis’ 185-pound belt on August 16 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Khamzat Chimaev Next Fight: ‘Borz’ Faces Dricus du Plessis for 185-Pound Belt At UFC 319
Despite being just 31-years-old and only having had eight UFC fights to date, ‘Borz’ is already one of the biggest stars in all of professional MMA.
Khamzat Chimaev’s record is currently a perfect 14-0, with almost every one of his performances being an emphatic, dominant display. This consists of six knockout victories, six submissions and two wins via decision.
The Emerati MMA phenom has won each of his eight UFC fights to date, six of which have come inside the distance. UFC fans last saw ‘Borz’ in action at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi when Chimaev destroy Robert Whittaker inside Round 1 of their bout.
That performance has in turn earned his his maiden shot at UFC gold at UFC 319 on August 16. This comes as the Khamzat Chimaev next fight was confirmed for the UFC Middleweight Title against Dricus du Plessis in the UFC 319 main event this summer.
Du Plessis vs Chimaev is without doubt one of the biggest fights in all of MMA right now. Following Jon Jones’ retirement with the Tom Aspinall fight now officially off, this UFC 319 match-up is perhaps the single biggest in all of the UFC as of today.
UFC President Dana White has a complete star on his hands, who many have tipped to go on to become a pound-for-pound UFC great in the future. Given the nature of his career-best performance at UFC 308, do not be surprised to see Chimaev’s next fight be another emphatic win.
Despite being the challenger, UK bookmakers are giving Chimaev the edge over ‘Stillknocks’ in their UFC 319 main event. That just goes to show how good he really is. It will take someone extremely special to actually beat Khamzat Chimaev and stop him from wiping out the entire 185-pound division.
Who Could Chimaev’s Next Fight Be Against After Du Plessis?
Should Khamzat Chimaev’s next fight go to plan against Dricus du Plessis, then this could well spell the beginning of a dominant reign as the 185-pound champion.
If Chimaev, who’s net worth has surpassed $3m, wins in style against the South African at UFC 319, then he will begin taking on all challengers at middleweight. That being said, he has already beaten some of the best in the division.
A rematch with Robert Whittaker makes no sense given how easily he beat the New Zealander. Similarly, former champion Israel Adesanya, who’s net worth is over £5m, has lost three fights on the spin so is nowhere near a UFC Middleweight Title shot yet.
Nassourdine Imavov could perhaps be next in line, as he is now officially the #1 middleweight contender. That fight could well be Chimaev’s next fight, if he becomes champion on August 16 in Chicago.
Caio Borralho isn’t too far away from a 185-pound title shot either, but needs a couple more wins against higher ranked fighters first. These are two of the most obvious contenders, with former champion Sean Strickland another potential option.
Another glaringly obvious contest for Khamzat Chimaev next would be the du Plessis rematch. That of course depends on how their UFC 319 main event plays out and jus how competitive the fight is.
If du Plessis vs Chimaev is competitive and a really close fight, they could well have a rematch later this year or in early 2026. Even if ‘Borz’ was to lose for the very first time but it was a competitive fight, he could well be granted an immediate rematch too.
Time will tell what happens with the Khamzat Chimaev next fight after his bout with Dricus du Plessis for the UFC Middleweight Title on August 16 at UFC 319.
