The PGA Tour heads to TPC Deere Run this week in Silvis, Illinois for the 2025 John Deere Classic golf tournament.
This marks the penultimate PGA Tour event before the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush in just two weeks time for the final major championship of the year.
Some of the world’s best players are teeing it up this week at the John Deere Classic, with several big names also taking a week off in preparation for the Scottish Open next week over at The Renaissance Club.
One man who is teeing it up at the 2025 John Deere Classic this week is Davis Thompson. Thompson won this event 12 months ago for the very first time, breaking all sorts of records in the process.
The American golfer won the John Deere Classic last year on a score of -28 par. That winning score now means that Thompson holds the record for the lowest score in John Deere Classic history.
What’s more impressive is that it was the 26-year-old’s first victory on the PGA Tour. Now, 12 months on, Thompson aims to defend his crown and go back-to-back at TPC Deere Run this week in Silvis, Illinois.
The likes of career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy, world number one Scottie Scheffler and two-time major champion Xander Schauffele aren’t in action this week on the PGA Tour.
They will all return next week in Scotland for the Scottish Open, in preparation for The Open 2025 the following week in Northern Ireland.
How Many John Deere Classic Past Winners Have There Been?
The first John Deere Classic was held in 1971. Since then, the golf tournament has been an ever-present on the PGA Tour.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 was the only year that the John Deere Classic was not held. It is one of the longest standing PGA Tour events on the roster, with a whole host of huge names claiming victory at TPC Deere Run over the years.
The likes of Bryson DeChambeau, who’s net worth has hit $44m, is just one of the big names who has tasted victory in the past at the John Deere Classic.
Major champions Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman, Zach Johnson and Vijay Singh are just some of the other names who have triumphed at the John Deere Classic over the years.
In total, there have been 53 winners of the John Deere Classic since it’s inceptions. Of these 53 tournaments, 10 of them have been won in a play-off with 43 outright winners.
Of course, several players have won the John Deere Classic more than once. Spieth, Steve Stricker, DA Weibring, David Frost, Scott Hoch and Deane Beman have each won the John Deere Classic on numerous occasions.
Stricker holds the record, winning three tournaments in a row from 2009-2011. Overall, this means that there have been 46 different John Deere Classic past winners since the first tournament back in 1971.
