Delacroix landed last Saturday’s 2025 Coral-Eclipse with a late burst that saw him collar the favourite Ombudsman by a neck – but four days on and Sandown clerk of the course – Andrew Cooper – has revealed an amazing trend that’s been building up when trying to find the winner of their big Group One race.

Fast forward to 2026 and anyone looking to find the winner of the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown could have a fool-proof method.
Simply head to the stable area pre-race and see which horse has been handed stable box 102.
Why?
Well, as revealed this week by Sandown’s clerk of the course Andrew Cooper – ALL of the last five Coral-Eclipse winners warmed up for their victories in box number 102.

Yes, Aidan O’Brien’s Delacroix was gifted the magic 102 box prior to his win last Saturday (watch below) and he didn’t let the last four occupants down.
Coming with a storming late run to collar the favourite and leader just before the post – Ombudsman – to win by a neck.
In the process, Delacroix kept up the amazing run that has now seen ALL of the last five Eclipse winner start their day in stable box 102.
With O’Brien also responsible for three others – City Of Troy (2024), Paddington (2023) and St Mark’s Basilica (2021).
Maybe Aidan knows something we don’t – or maybe next year Sandown should start charging owners for the key 102 stable box?
The French-trained Vadeni is the ‘stable box meat in the sandwich’ – when winning in 2022 for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget.

Delacroix Gave Aidan O’Brien a Record Ninth Coral-Eclipse Win 🏆🌒
The victory for Delacroix was a ninth Coral-Eclipse winner for Aidan O’Brien.
His first win in the race came way back in 2000 with Giant’s Causeway, who was ridden that day by veteran jockey George Duffield.
While since that debut win, O’Brien has added Hawk Wing (2002), Oratorio (2005), Mount Nelson (2008), So You Think (2011), St Mark’s Basilica (2021), Paddington (2023), City of Troy (2024) and, of course, Delacroix (2025) this year.
Delacroix’s win also gave jockey Ryan Moore a fifth win in the race and his third in-a-row. He needs just two more to equal the record haul of Lester Piggott (7).
With an array of talent at his disposal and already many exciting 2 year-olds that could be targeted at the race as 3 year-olds next term – then it will be a brave man that says O’Brien can’t grab a milestone tenth win in the race.
This Saturday Aidan O’Brien looks for another big-race win – this time in the July Cup.
Where he needs just one more win to become the winning-most trainer in the history of this race too.
