No trainer has won the Sandown Coral-Eclipse Stakes more times than Aidan O’Brien – with a record EIGHT successes in the race. You can see ALL his past winners over the years – that started with the ultra-tough Giant’s Causeway in 2000. Plus, also see which horses the Ballydoyle maestro has entered for the 2025 Coral-Eclipse, which is set to be run on Saturday 5th July. Aidan O’Brien Has Trained EIGHT Coral-Eclipse Stakes Winners, With His First Coming In 2000 With the Coral-Eclipse first run in 1886 it’s amazing to think the winning-most trainer in the race is in current times. Okay, Aidan O’Brien has shot to the top of the tree is a lot of races both in England and Ireland over the last 25 years – but it’s still a remarkable feat to have bagged EIGHT Coral-Eclipse wins from his Ballydoyle base in Ireland. You have to go back to 2000 to find his first – when the gutsy Giant’s Causeway refused to give in under veteran jockey George Duffield (53) – despite the Aga Khan’s Kalanisi looking all over the winner in the final stages. Duffield also won the race nine year’s earlier with the James Fanshawe-trained Environment Friend in 1991. That win started an eight-year spell of three more O’Brien winners as Hawk Wing flew home in 2002 and Oratorio lowered the colours of that year’s Derby winner Motivator, who was part-owned by Simon Cowell, in 2005. Mount Nelson was O’Brien’s fourth Coral-Eclipse winner in 2008 under jockey and now ITV Racing pundit Johnny Murtagh. Then the New Zealand-bred So You Think also beat a former Derby winner (Workforce) in 2011. The sixth win in the race for O’Brien came with St Mark’s Basilica in 2021 – which ended a nine-year spell without a success in the Sandown race. Plus, led to two more recent wins with Paddington in 2023 and last year when his Epsom Derby hero City Of Troy was a short-priced 1/4 winner to give Aidan O’Brien his eighth Coral-Eclipse win. Prior to Aidan O’Brien, who had five Royal Ascot winners this season, the other trainers to have done well in the race were – Sir Michael Stoute (6 wins), Alec Taylor Jr (6 wins) and John Porter (5 wins). Possible Aidan O’Brien Coral-Eclipse Runners 2025 At this stage there are still several possible Aidan O’Brien Coral-Eclipse runners, with the final declarations out on Thursday 3rd July. These include his Royal Ascot winner Trinity College, who impressed in the Hampton Court Stakes. Plus, his French Derby hero Camille Pissarro also has this race as a target – as does Epsom Derby flop Delacroix, who will be hoping to bounce back over the shorter trip. You can see if his runners fit the key Coral-Eclipse trends and stats here. As the race draws nearer the possible Aidan O’Brien Coral-Eclipse runners are down to just three. Moore’s first success in the Sandown Group One came in 2007 on Notnowcato, who was trained by Sir Michael Stoute. But his next three wins have all come for O’Brien – when guiding home St Mark’s Basilica (2021), Paddington (2023) and City Of Troy (2024), which you can watch below. Trainer John Gosden Has Half The Coral-Eclipse Winners Than Aidan O’Brien John Gosden and Aidan O’Brien The trainer that might upset the Aidan O’Brien Coral-Eclipse apple-cart in 2025 is John Gosden. Heading into the July race the Newmarket handler might only have half of the wins of O’Brien (4), but he looks to have a big hand if his Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner Ombudsman runs. After that Royal Ascot win, Ombudsman’s official rating shot up from 117 to 128 and is now one of the top-rated flat horses in the UK and Ireland. Gosden also has another Royal Ascot winner Field Of Gold entered, but the St James’s Palace Stakes hero is expected to be kept apart from his stablemate. With the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday 30th July the more likely target for this talented grey. The John Gosden wins in the race have been with Nathaniel (2012), Golden Horn (2015), Roaring Lion (2018) and Enable (2019).
