The 2025 Open Championship prize money will see the players at Portrush this week battling it out for a $17m purse. But just how much does the winner get of that total?
We look at the FULL Open Championship prize money breakdown – from 1st to 70th. Plus, how the winnings have increased over the last ten years and also how the Open compares to the other three golf majors – in terms of purses.
Open Championship Prize Money 2025 Is The Same as Last Year 💰⛳
Twelve months ago, US golfer Xander Schauffele won his first Claret Jug and in the process walked away with a cool $3.1m in Open Championship prize money.
Which is the same prize haul as this year’s winner will get with no increase on the 2024 total.
Meaning Rory McIlroy, who will be keen to win the Open in his homeland of Northern Ireland, world number one, Scottie Scheffler, and the last player to win this major at Portrush, Shane Lowry – will all be eyeing up the $3.1m first prize.
This equates to around £2.4m for the winner and a £12.6m purse.
Then the runner-up will bank $1,759,000 – which is $1,341,000 less than the winner, so there’s a lot to play for.
With the third walking away with $1,128,000 and the fourth $876,000.
As you can see from the 2025 Open Championship prize money breakdown, that even the 70th placed player will get $38,900.
Before a ball has been hit the best golf betting sites in the UK are making Scottie Scheffler favourite, as the world number one looks to break his duck in this major.
