Multi-weight world champions Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez are in talks for a January super-fight, as the pair continue heated exchange on social media.
It seems that the Stevenson vs Lopez clash now has legs, with ‘The Takeover’ letting slip a potential date for the all-American mega-fight.
Shakur Stevenson vs Teofimo Lopez In Talks For January Super-Fight
A fight between three-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson and two-division king Teofimo Lopez has gathered further momentum after their latest social media exchange.
Lopez and Stevenson have gone back and forth on social media over the past few weeks, but it seems that a fight could legitimately happen between the pair next.
Stevenson’s next fight may well be against ‘The Takeover’ in early 2026, after the American has expressed an interest in moving up to super-lightweight fairly soon.
Lopez on the other hand has been flirting with a move to welterweight for some time, but remains at 140-pound fighter right now and still holds the WBO World Super-Lightweight Title too.
After his latest victory over William Zepeda, the Newark native called out Lopez on social media, chasing an all-American super-fight with the 28-year-old up at super-lightweight.
‘The Takeover’ on the other hand is coming off a unanimous decision win over mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr in May. Lopez retailed his WBO junior welterweight belt for the third time, and has revealed his desire to move up to 147-pounds in the not too distant future.
However, it seems Lopez could be hanging about at 140-pounds for a little bit longer if he is to face Shakur. Stevenson is ranked at #1 at 135-pounds with ESPN ranking Lopez #1 at 140-pounds. A fight between the pair would be one of the biggest in world boxing, that’s for sure.
Now, it seems the Shakur Stevenson vs Teofimo Lopez fight could genuinely be on the horizon after their latest heated social media exchange.

‘Make It Happen’ – Shakur Stevenson Calls For Teofimo Lopez Clash
It was Shakur Stevenson who first called for a fight with WBO 140-pound king Teofimo Lopez. This came in the aftermath of his unanimous decision victory over William Zepeda on July 12.
Since then, there has been constant back and forth between the pair. Now, it looks like a fight could genuinely be on the cards for as early as January next year.
In their latest war of words on social media, ‘The Takeover’ let slip that a January fight date may well already have been agreed between the parties. If so, boxing fans can expect an official announcement in due course.
Teofimo Lopez’s next fight against the 24-0 Stevenson would be one of the toughest of his career, and certainly the most difficult at 140-pounds to date.
That being said, Lopez has beaten elite amateur and future Hall of Famer Vasyl Lomachenko before, so he will be full of confidence that he can do the same to the 28-year-old.
The latest Stevenson vs Lopez social media exchange was another entertaining one for boxing fans:
“U called me out lil dude, I told you I’m down” Stevenson commented on a picture Lopez shared of the two. ‘The Takeover’ then replied saying: “It’s going to feel good when this “lil dude” makes you his “lil b***h” in January! I suggest you take all the SNAC you possibly can, & even that won’t help.”
Stevenson had the last say in the social media exchange, replying saying : “U know what feels even better u agreeing to the fight now shut yo p***y ass up and make it happen.”
Who Would Be The Stevenson vs Lopez Favourite?
Should the Shakur Stevenson vs Teofimo Lopez super-fight materialise, boxing betting sites would find it hard to split the pair.
Both have plenty of pedigree and are multi-weight world champions. Stevenson has won world titles in three different weight classes, as well as boasting an unblemished 24-0 record.
Lopez however is a two-weight world champion in his own right, having lost just one fight to George Kambosos Jr. That being said, his resume has more big names, including the great Vasyl Lomachenko and former undisputed super-lightweight king Josh Taylor.
This is as close to a 50/50 fight as you are likely to get between two elite American boxers. That being said, if there were to be a favourite it would perhaps be Stevenson.
Lopez has put in several sub-par performances at 140-pounds, whereas Stevenson has always made every fight look easy. He could well do the same against ‘The Takeover’, if their continuous social media exchanges eventually produce a proper fight.
