Roy Jones Jr Gives Shock Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford Prediction

When it comes to boxing, it’s fair to say that Roy Jones Jr knows a thing or two.

The American fought 76 times as a professional, winning world titles in four different weight classes. Not only that, but Jones is universally recognised as one of the greatest boxers to ever grace the ring.

Jones is a man that knows how to read a fight, having beaten a ‘who’s who’ of elite boxers over his 30+ year career. This includes wins over the likes of Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Antonio Tarver and Felix Trinidad to name but a few.

Although no longer competing inside the ring, ‘Superman’ is regularly seen at blockbuster boxing events as a fan, pundit and commentator. One fight Jones is set to attend is the Canelo vs Crawford super-fight next month at the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.

‘Canelo’ is the pre-fight favourite with boxing betting sites to hand ‘Bud’ the first defeat of his professional career, but Crawford has plenty of backers too.

The fight is at super-middleweight (168-pounds), meaning Crawford is jumping a further two weight categories from his current super-welterweight class. Add to this the fact that Crawford is naturally a super-lightweight/welterweight at most too.

Canelo vs Crawford has taken the boxing world by storm, with less than a month to go now until fight. Ahead of the contest, Jones Jr has weighed in with a somewhat surprising yet brutally honest pre-fight prediction.

The 56-year-old feels that Terence Crawford’s next fight against ‘Canelo’ could be his coming-of-age night to finally get the recognition he deserves for what has been a truly remarkable boxing career.

Jones Jr: ‘Bud Has Never Got The Recognition Like Canelo Has’

Speaking in a recent interview with The Ring Magazine, Roy Jones Jr gave his totally honest assessment of the upcoming Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs Terence Crawford super-fight.

The undisputed vs undisputed clash goes down on September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Labelled ‘Once In A Lifetime’, Canelo vs Crawford is arguably the biggest fight of the entire 21st century.

Ahead of the intriguing match-up, Jones has given a surprising pre-fight prediction, backing ‘Bud’ to win the fight. Although unclear on how he feels the American will achieve this victory, Jones feels that Crawford is far hungrier than Canelo now.

Not only that, but the boxing icon ‘Superman’ feels that Crawford has never quite got the recognition he deserves for his incredible career to date:

“Bud [Terence Crawford] has never gotten the recognition for what he deserves like Canelo has.

“Bud is still hungry for that recognition. When you’re hungry like that, a determined man, you’re very hard to detour,” the four-weight world champion concluded.

Canelo’s next fight is arguably the toughest of his career, despite Crawford being a natural super-lightweight/welterweight. This is a big ask for ‘Bud’ to jump up to super-middleweight and beat one of the greatest fighters of this era.

However, he is undefeated and one of the best finishers in all of boxing. If he can navigate the size difference, September 13 could be Terence Crawford’s night.
