As we welcome back jump racing at Prestbury Park this Friday and Saturday for their two-day Showcase Meeting – we give you SEVEN horses that have won at the fixture before.
Seven Past Cheltenham Winners Returning To ‘Showcase’ Their Talent
This week the 2025 Cheltenham Showcase Meeting will feature 14 races over the two days.
The tapes go up on the first Prestbury Park fixture on Friday with the Grade Two OddsChecker Novices’ Hurdle one of the feature races – a prize trainer Dan Skelton took 12 months ago with Valgrand.
Then on Saturday, there are seven more races that include the Masterson Holdings Hurdle – where all eyes will be on the Gary and Josh Moore-trained Give It To Me Oj, who is 3-from-6 over hurdles.
Over the two days, the ITV Racing schedule will be showing ten races in total.
And with Cheltenham often referred to a ‘horses for courses’ track – then looking at proven winning form here can often help find winners.
Which is why it could pay to note the SEVEN past Cheltenham winners, that have won at this meeting before.
You can also see our Cheltenham trainer stats ahead of this weekend – revealing seven yards to have on your radar.
LISNAMULT LAD (Entry: Saturday 2:55)
This 8 year-old was a winner here last October – when taking the William Hill Top Price Guarantee Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase – which is the opening race on the Saturday.
He’s currently entered for two contests over the meeting – the 3m1f Handicap Chase and Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle – both on the Saturday.
Lisnamult Lad was last seen running second in the Topham Chase over the Grand National fences at Aintree back in April – he’s rated 4lbs higher now.
This will also be the third time he’s run at the meeting – having run 4th in a Novice Hurdle here back in 2023.
INTENSE APPROACH (Entry: Saturday 4:05)
The Irish John C McConnell yard is often feared here at the Showcase Meeting and that was backed up again in 2024 when Intense Approach landed the Novice Hurdle on the Saturday – a race they’ve actually won three times since 2020.
He went onto win twice more over hurdles last season – but was pulled up in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle back at Cheltenham in March.
This 6 year-old has since switched codes to run over fences and made a winning debut at Galway over the summer, when racing over the bigger obstacles for the first time.
He’ll be looking to maintain that record over fences, in the 4:05pm Novices’ Chase – a race the Irish have won four times since 2016.
In the past, the McConnell team also won Friday’s 1:15 in 2022 with Seddon, the 3:00 in 2022 with Fennor Cross.
Plus the 3:30 on Saturday in 2018 with Pearl Of The West.
HYLAND (Entry: Saturday 2:20)
This Nicky Henderson-trained 8 year-old was last seen being pulled-up in the Aintree Grand National back in April – but prior to that had been running well over fences.
These good runs included two wins here at Cheltenham – taking the William Hill Most Top Prices Novices’ Chase at the Showcase Meeting and also winning at the November Meeting the following month.
Plus, that win 12 months ago wasn’t his only win at the Showcase – he also landed the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle in 2023.
Hyland, who has a good record fresh, returns to a track we know he loves on a mark of 147.
Which is the same rating as when second in the National and Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap last season.
CALICO (Entry: Friday 3:35)
Horse racing fans might remember Calico being a past Cheltenham winner – when landing the squareintheair.com Handicap Chase on the Friday.
And he’s back in the same race this year – but is now rated 4lbs higher off a mark of 142.
This Dan Skelton-trained 9 year-old hasn’t won a race since though.
However, certainly wasn’t disgraced in defeat when last seen – running second in the Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase at Aintree back in April.
THE NEWEST ONE (Entry: Friday 4:45)
The Nigel Twiston-Davies team have featured in our hot trainers list in recent weeks and could have another leading chance here.
This 10 year-old won the Glenfarclas Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase at the meeting last year – which is run on the Friday.
He contests the same race again in 2025 – which is the 4:45pm on Friday – with this past Cheltenham winner rated a pound lower.
In fact, in this amateur riders’ race lat year he had a 5lb claiming jockey and has a jockey able to take off 7lbs this time – meaning he’s actually 3lbs better off this time.
MOLE COURT (Entries: Friday 4:45)
We’ve just mentioned the 2024 winner of the amateur riders’ race – The Newest One – but we could also see the 2023 winner Mole Court back to try and wrestle back his crown.
This Ben Pauling runner is back rated the same too (115) – however, has only won once since.
He returned from a wind op last month to run third (of 7) at Uttoxeter and connections have booked the useful James King to do the steering.
PIPED PIPER (Entry: Saturday 4:05)
Gordon Elliott won the American Grand National last weekend in New Jersey but will be hoping for more glory at Cheltenham this weekend.
He’s got Pied Piper entered in two races at the moment – but being a past Cheltenham winner, then whichever race they land on he has to be respected.
This New Approach gelding is still only 7 years-old and won the Masterson Holdings Hurdle here in 2022 and went onto run a neck second in the 2023 County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival that season.
He was also 4th in the County in 2024 (watch below) and has since switched to fences – where he’s 3-from-6.
But has lost his way a tad in recent runs – including when last seen being well-beaten in a Novice Chase at Tipperary earlier this month, so needs to bounce back.
If running in the 4:05 race – this is a contest Elliott has a good record in too. He’s won the prize twice since 2020.
