Mohamed Salah is braced for his 300th Premier League appearance for Liverpool this weekend – but will line up with something to prove.
The Egyptian ace might be one of the best players to ever grace a Premier League pitch, but still has his fair share of doubters this season.
Mohamed Salah Set For 300th Premier League Appearance
Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah is closing in on his 300th Premier League appearance for the club.
Should Salah feature against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, he will hit the 300-game mark for the Anfield outfit in the Premier League.
Salah already has 417 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions since signing for the Merseyside outfit in June 2017.
The Egyptian international has recorded 276 goal involvements in his 299 Premier League appearances for Liverpool to date. This includes 188 goals and 89 assists.
Presuming he does play, he would become just the fifth player to reach 300 Premier League appearances for the club behind Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Sami Hyypia.
However, former player Don Hutchinson feels Liverpool should drop Egyptian king Salah, despite his accolades and previous records for the Reds.
Salah Still Has Something To Prove This Season Despite Top-Class Premier League Status
Although he is evidently a world class player and has been one of Liverpool’s best in the Premier League era, some people still feel Mohamed Salah has something to prove this season,
Salah’s ability cannot be questioned, but other aspects of his game have been of late.
Whether this be in his lacklustre performances this season, taking his eye off the ball after signing a contract extension in the summer or if indeed he is a team player when the Reds really need him to be.
With reports that Liverpool want Raphinha as Salah’s successor, the Egyptian still has something to prove this season.
Liverpool look all but out of the Premier League title race already, so if Salah steps up and takes responsibility on the pitch, he could prove his doubters wrong once more.
The 33-year-old is somewhat a victim of his own success having set incredibly high standards during his time at Anfield.
It might be disrespectful to think that Salah still has something to prove, but football fans are fickle and people’s opinions can change at the drop of a hat.
Fans Question Whether Salah Is A ‘Team Player’
One of Mohamed Salah’s main criticisms this season has been his selfishness. It’s been said on numerous occasions that the Egyptian can be greedy with the ball rather than choosing the best option for his team mates.
The argument on the flip side is that Salah has provided 89 assists on top of his 188 goals in his 299 Premier League appearances for the Reds to date.
This is the joint-most by a player for a single Premier League club, with Wayne Rooney on the same number for Manchester United. In all likelihood, Salah will overtake Rooney and break the record this side of Christmas.
Salah’s current scoring rate could push his record beyond reach, especially if Liverpool begins to improve and get back into the habit of winning football matches.
If they do, you can almost guarantee that Mohamed Salah will be at the centre of a Liverpool revival.
Whether this be through his goals or assists, the Egyptian ace will be out to prove his doubters wrong once again.
