Chelsea have emerged as the front-runners to sign teenage sensation Dylan Lawlor from Cardiff City – but will face tough competition from Liverpool.
League One outfit Cardiff City are bracing themselves for a bidding war from some of Europe’s elite.
Interest in 19-year-old defender Dylan Lawlor has intensified rapidly, with the Welsh youngster enjoying a breakout campaign.
His rapid rise has seen him promoted to Craig Bellamy’s senior Wales squad already.
Now with three caps since making his debut in September, Lawlor is being tracked by a host of top clubs.
A product of Cardiff’s academy, he has long been admired internally.
But having made 15 appearances this season, scoring his first senior goal in a 4-3 win against Leyton Orient, he has become one of the most sought after young defenders in British football.
🏴 This highlights why Dylan Lawlor is one of the best young centre-backs in the EFL.
Composed on the ball, great carrier and very progressive with his passing.

According to reports, almost every club in the Premier League is monitoring him.
This includes the traditional ‘big six’ of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Chelsea.
Newcastle United have also been monitoring his development closely.
But it’s Chelsea who appear to be the frontrunners as it stands, though Liverpool are also very keen.
Chelsea Leading Race To Sign Dylan Lawlor
Among the numerous top clubs chasing Lawlor’s signature, Chelsea are thought to be the favourites.
The London club have prioritised recruiting high-potential young stars as part of their long-term plans.
Just last month, future Chelsea youngster Dastan Satpaev made Champions League history as the first Kazakhstani scorer in the competitions history.
Seventeen-year-old Satpaev will join the Blues next season, having agreed a future move from Kairat Almaty.
Stories such as his highlight how Chelsea are prioritising youth and stockpiling as much talent as possible.
And Lawlor’s blend of composure, athleticism, and ball-playing ability has placed him near the top of their shortlist.
With the Blues continuing to look for future leaders at the back, the young Welshman is viewed by many at Stamford Bridge as a defender with the ceiling to grow into a Premier League star.
Liverpool See Lawlor As Long-Term Van Dijk Replacement
But signing Lawlor will not be straightforward for Enzo Maresca’s team.
They face stiff competition from Liverpool, who have also stepped up their interest.
Manager Arne Slot is keen to bring in a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman remains an elite talent, but is entering the twilight years of his career.
Liverpool had hoped to have found that in young Giovanni Leoni.
But the 18-year-old’s career-threatening ACL rupture against Southampton has halted his progress.

As a result, Lawlor’s name has entered discussions.
His reading of the game, aerial prowess and calmness in possession are all traits that Liverpool admire.
Any direct comparisons to Van Dijk are premature, of course, but the club have identified Lawlor as someone who could develop to that level over the course of his career.
Numerous Top Clubs Keen On Lawlor Signing
Elsewhere, Arsenal and Manchester United are keeping an eye on the situation, as are Newcastle.
Like Chelsea, the Gunners have made a conscious effort to bring in young talent.
Arsenal agreed a double transfer for 16-year-old twins Edwin and Holger Quintero this week, who will both join the club when they turn 18.
But it isn’t just Premier League clubs that hold an interest.
Lawlor’s eye-catching performances on the international stage, at just 19, have attracted some European heavyweights.
Bundesliga clubs Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig are all understood to have scouted him this season, further underlining his growing reputation.
Cardiff City Hopeful Of Keeping Lawlor Until The Summer
But despite all the interest, Cardiff are determined to ward off any mid-season approaches.
The Welsh side are rebuilding after last season’s relegation to League One, and view Lawlor as a key pillar in their promotion push.
With his contract running until 2028, the Bluebirds are under no pressure to sell cheaply.

But the club realise they have little hope of keeping the young starlet if a top European club comes knocking.
The best realistic scenario for Cardiff is to try and hang onto their man until the summer, before agreeing a lucrative deal with a top team.
For Lawlor, the next decision will prove to be one of the biggest of his career.
But if the scouts are to be believed, then the sky really is the limit for this talented young defender.
