Aston Villa host RB Salzburg in their final Europa League league phase fixture on Thursday.

The pair clash at 20:00 in the West Midlands, with Villa already having secured direct advancement to the round of 16 after sealing a top-eight finish in the table last week.

Their narrow 1-0 win away at Fenerbahce saw them climb up to second. They are level on points with league leaders Lyon but trail the French outfit by four goals on goal difference.

Unai Emery’s side followed up their midweek continental win with a 2-0 win away at Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Emi Buendia and Ollie Watkins were the scorers for the Villans.

There are plenty of transfer rumours swirling around the club ahead of Salzburg’s visit, too.

Villa entered talks for Douglas Luiz earlier this week, and it has since been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that the Brazilian will rejoin the club on loan from Juventus with a buy option clause.

Additionally, Villa are eyeing Mads Hermansen amid rumours of Emi Martinez’s departure to Inter.

As for Salzburg, they are currently outside of the knockout qualification positions in 28th.

To book their spot in the knockout round playoffs, they must come out on top against the high-flying Villans. Not only that, but they will also need other results to go in their favour.

They have underwhelmed in the league phase this term, winning just two and losing five.

Thomas Letsch’s side sealed a 3-1 win over Swiss Super League side Basel on MD7 last Thursday, just about keeping their dreams of advancing to the knockout stages alive.

Their only other win in the Europa League came as they beat Go Ahead Eagles 2-0 on MD4.

Coincidentally, Villa’s only loss in the competition came away at Go Ahead Eagles on MD3.

Aston Villa vs RB Salzburg Bet Builder Tips

1. Ollie Watkins – Anytime Goalscorer

Watkins is Villa’s focal point in attack and regularly gets into strong scoring positions inside the box.

He consistently converts chances and poses a constant threat when Villa are on the front foot.

Why: Central striker role plus finishing ability make him Villa’s most likely scorer.

2. Morgan Rogers – Over 1.5 Shots on Target

Rogers plays in advanced wide areas and often cuts inside to test goalkeepers.

He consistently looks to shoot when he receives the ball in dangerous positions.

Why: Attacking role and high shooting involvement support multiple on-target efforts.

3. Jadon Sancho – Over 1.5 Shots

Sancho plays in one of Villa’s most creative attacking roles in Europe and frequently takes aim when advancing into the final third.

He gets on the ball in threatening areas and looks for opportunities to shoot.

Why: Advanced attacking role and shot involvement support multiple attempts.

4. Kerim Alajbegovic – Over 0.5 Shots on Target

Alajbegovic plays as one of Salzburg’s more advanced attacking options and frequently gets into the box.

He is involved in build-up play and often looks to shoot when presented with space.

Why: Forward role and positioning support at least one on-target shot.

5. Alexander Schlager – Over 3.5 Saves

Schlager is likely to face sustained pressure from Villa’s attacking threats throughout the match.

When Salzburg are under attack, he will be called on repeatedly to keep the scoreline respectable.

Why: High shot volume against Salzburg increases goalkeeper save opportunities.

6. Match Total – Over 2.5 Goals

Both teams have strong attacking personnel and are prone to open play with transitions and counter-attacks.

Goalscoring chances should come from both sides, especially when defending aggressively.

Why: Attacking styles and game flow favor a multi-goal outcome.
