The most notable 2025 2000 Guineas runner that DIDN’T win last time out was the Aidan O’Brien-trained Expanded, who was runner-up in the Dewhurst Stakes.

What Are The Best 2000 Guineas Trial Races?

The current 2000 Guineas favourite is Field Of Gold, who scooted away with the Craven Stakes at Newmarket in April.

However, in recent times only the Barry Hills-trained Haafhd in 2004 has landed both races.

The Dewhurst Stakes has been the better guide with five winners of that 2 year-old contest, which is run the season before, going onto take the Guineas.

With the most recent being Chaldean in 2022.

The latest horse to try will be Godolphin’s Shadow Of Light, who saw off Expanded in the 2024 Dewhurst Stakes (watch below).

Another good 2000 Guineas trial race is the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes – with five winners going onto land the Newmarket race in the last 23 runnings.

These were Churchill, Gleneagles, Dawn Approach, George Washington and Refuse To Bend.

The next to try will be the Joseph O’Brien-trained Scorthy Champ – who won the 2024 National Stakes last season.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien Has Won 2000 Guineas TEN Times

No trainer has won the 2000 Guineas more time than Aidan O’Brien – the Ballydoyle maestro has racked up a staggering ten wins in the Newmarket Classic.

His first came in 1998 with King Of Kings, with his most recent Magna Grecia in 2019.

However, this means – despite his top record – O’Brien is on a drought of five years.

He’s also only expected to have ONE 2000 Guineas runner in 2025 – which is Expanded as he looks to end his dry spell.

With another of this main runners Twain now missing the race after scoping badly in the build-up.

Expanded will be ridden by Ryan Moore, who has two wins in the race to his name.

John Gosden Is Yet To Win The 2000 Guineas

You have to check and then double check – but leading Newmarket horse racing trainer John Gosden is STILL TO WIN THE 2000 Guineas.

The veteran handler has hit the woodwork at few times – with the likes of Roaring Lion, Raven’s Pass and Anshan – while his classy colt Kingman was runner-up in 2014.

He’ll he trying to break this 2000 Guineas duck with a Kingman colt – Field Of Gold, who bolted-up in the Craven Stakes last time out (watch below).

Godolphin Have Won Two Of The Last Three 2000 Guineas and Five In Total

The other 2000 Guineas stable to note is Charlie Appleby or Godolphin – who have won two of the last three, with the ‘boys in blue’ winning five in total.

With their first coming in 1996 with the Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Mark Of Esteem, who was ridden by Frankie Dettori.

While last year they took the spoils with Notable Speech – with William Buick riding his first winner in the race.

This year they’ve got another decent hand – with the already mentioned Dewhurst Stakes winner Shadow Of Light and Ruling Court – plus outsider Tornado Alert for Silvestre De Sousa.

Buick has decided to ride Ruling Court.
