Field Of Gold Tops 2000 Guineas Runners For 2025 – Can He Give John Gosden His First Win In The Newmarket Race?
It’s hard to believe that top Newmarket trainer John Gosden has NEVER won Saturday’s 2000 Guineas – but that is a fact.
Yes, he’s had big horses over the years like Raven’s Pass, Roaring Lion and Kingman all beaten when well-fancied in the race – but the best horse racing betting sites in the UK are suggesting he can break his duck in this early season Classic in 2025.
This is because Gosden has the hot 2000 Guineas favourite Field Of Gold, who romped away with the Craven Stakes over the Guineas course and distance last time out.
This good-looking grey is also a Kingman colt – another horse that Gosden failed to win the 2000 Guineas with, when he was runner-up in 2014.
Field Of Gold will be looking to become the first Craven Stakes winner to land the 2000 Guineas since Haafhd in 2004. But the 2018 winner – Masar – did go onto win the Epsom Derby.
As a result of Field Of Gold’s smooth 3 1/2 length Craven win, with another 2000 Guineas runner Wimbledon Hawyeye back in second, the layers cut his Newmarket odds into clear favourite.
He’ll he looking to become the seventh winning 2000 Guineas favorite in the last 24 runnings and heads a maximum 16 2000 Guineas runners for the 2025 renewal (see them all below).

Aidan O’Brien Will Have Have Just One 2000 Guineas Runner – With Expanded His Sole Hope
No trainer has won the 2000 Guineas more times than Aidan O’Brien – with the Ballydoyle maestro racking up ten wins so far in his career.
The first came back in 1998 with King Of Kings, with the most recent Magna Grecia in 2019 – meaning despite his top record in the race, O’Brien will head into 2025 on a five year dry spell.
But with the news that his fancied Twain missing out due to a bad scope, he’ll only have ONE 2025 2000 Guineas runner – which will be Expanded.
He’s, therefore, expected to get the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle as the top jockey looks for his third win in the race.
Expanded was last seen running a close second behind Shadow Of Light in the Dewhurst Stakes at HQ last October.

William Buick Will Face Tricky Pick On Two Well-Fancied Godolphin 2000 Guineas Runners
The ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin are the other big operation that horse racing punters will look towards ahead of Saturday’s 2000 Guineas.
They’ve won the prize twice in the last three years, including last year with Notable Speech and five times in total.
Godolphin have another strong hand with their 2000 Guineas runners in 2025 too – with both Shadow Of Light and Ruling Court prominent in the betting.
All this will mean a headache of a pick for their main stable jockey William Buick, who is hunting his second win in the race.
Shadow Of Light will head to the Newmarket race having won four of his five starts – and the winner of both the 2024 Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes last season.
This will be the first time he’s raced over 1m, but the Dewhurst Stakes (watch below) is often a fair guide to the 2000 Guineas with five of the last 23 winners having also won that contest.
Ruling Court is the lesser exposed of the Godolphin main players with just three career runs. But he’s won two of those and was only 2 1/2 lengths behind The Lion In Winter in the Acomb Stakes at York last season.
