This Saturday the ITV Racing cameras are at Ascot to take on five races and you can see Andy Newton’s Ascot horse racing tips and 1-2-3 best bets for the LIVE ITV Racing contests.Â
Last weekend Andy Newton fired in three Saturday winners at Newmarket – Bow Echo, Wise Approach and also the 14/1 Cambridgeshire winner Boiling Point.
ITV Horse Racing Tips: FIVE LIVE Races At Ascot On Saturday
Saturday’s ITV Racing schedule will cover races at Newmarket, Redcar and Ascot and it’s the last track that we are focusing on here.
Ascot will have five live races being shown on ITV that are spearheaded by two Group Three contests.
The Cumberland Lodge (2:25pm) will see Al Qareem back for more – this Karl Burke runner has won the last two renewals.
And we could also see the 2022 winner Hamish in the race, who is going for career win number 15.
The John Guest Bengough Stakes (3pm) is the other Group Three contest on the card and we’ve also got other past winners in Apollo One and Annaf.
Andy Newton takes a look at each of the five live ITV races below.
We also have horse racing tips daily that give FOUR best bets in a Lucky 15.
Plus, you can follow Andy on his ‘X’ handle @NewtsDailyLays where he also picks out one horse each day to take on (lay).
And also see him each week on the FINAL FURLONG podcast giving his weekend best bets.
Andy Newton’s Newmarket Racing Tips On Saturday 4th October 2025Â
1:15 – Ascot: McGee Group British EBF October Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f ITV
Cajole and 1,000 Guineas second Flight are respected – but this is a tricky race with most having something to prove.
Backed up with only two last-time-out winners – Circios amnd Dash Of Azure, who are both trained by Ralph Beckett.
However, the Beckett yard also have FAIR POINT (e/w), who looks a tad over-priced to me.
Yes, he’s had two recent poor runs so needs to bounce back from those – but these came in Group 3 races so the drop in grade will help.
She also likes it here at Ascot with a first and third from two runs and it’s interesting the blinkers are on for the first time too.
Any rain would help a tad but has run well on ‘good’ in the past and also won on ‘good-to-soft’.
If turning up, last year’s winner Sunfall is also respected in a race we know suits.
While Bright Thunder is probably the form horse but with just one win from her last nine is placed more often than winning.
🥇FAIR POINT (e/w)
🥈BRIGHT THUNDERÂ
🥉CIRCIOSÂ
1:50 – Ascot: BetMGM Rous Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 5f ITV
Another tricky race with many chances.
Woolhampton could return to form back here at Ascot – but would probably want some more rain.
Candy won the Redcar 2 year-old Trophy on this day last year and comes here in winning form after getting up at Ayr the last day.
While Shagraan was a nice winner of the Beverley Bullet and is hold his form well.
But the safe call is recent Ayr winner BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND, who was second in this race in 2024, but this looks a slightly easier renewal this year.
Went in by 2 1/2 lengths at Ayr the last day and is 3-from-3 there but as well as taking a silver in this 12 months ago was also third in the Queen Mary here at Ascot – so seems to like the Berkshire track too.
🥇BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND
🥈CANDY
🥉SHAGRAANÂ
2:25 – Ascot: BetMGM Cumberland Lodge Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f ITV
Sir Dinadan will have his backers after running fifth in the Irish Derby in June and gets weight off the main players – but might also like some rain.
The improving Tenability is on the up too and has won his last three – all here at Ascot – of those that bigger prices is interesting.
But is up in grade again and his jockey last time Cieren Fallon prefers the other William Haggas runner HAMISH.
This 9 year-old also won this race in 2022 and has been campaigned wisely since – only running a handful of times each season but has won 14 of his 26 starts.
He’s won his last three too – with the last coming at Chester in a Listed race. He’s never really flashy in his races but gets the job done more often than not.
He’ll face his biggest test from another past winner Al Qareem, who has won the last two renewals – but this Karl Burke runner is rated 3lbs lower to Hamish and has to give away 3lbs.
Meaning he’s really got 6lbs to find with the selection.
🥇HAMISH
🥈AL QAREEMÂ
🥉TENABILITYÂ
3:00 – Ascot: John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f ITV
Last year’s winner Apollo One is back and respected – but he’s not won a race since and will head here just 1-19, which came in this contest.
A recent second in the Portland Handicap was a return to form though – but this is a step up in grade again and is not getting any younger at 7.
Recent York winner Elmonjed and Shergar Cup hero Prince Of India will be on many people’s shortlist.
Plus we’ve another past winner back for more in Annaf.
But the call is for QUINAULT and CELANDINE to go well here.
Quinault likes to get on with things from the front so dropping back to 6f here (from 7f) looks a good move and is also a course winner here at Ascot.
He could easily burn them off from the front and not see another horse – we’ll see.
And the last time he dived back into a Group Three (Criterion Stakes) he won back in June.
Celandine will be running here for the first time but there is no reason why it won’t suit this Ed Walker filly.
She was the 2024 Lowther winner at York and despite not kicking on from that has been running in better races on the whole.
Including last time when a staying on 9th in the G1 Nunthorpe at York (watch below) – was almost last at the halfway stage and ran on through the field to only go down about four lengths.
The softer ground would be the worry for Celandine, so let’s keep an eye on that. But if things are not too bad as Ascot she can go well too.
Both look interesting contenders in a wide-open affair.
🥇QUINAULT
🥈CELANDINEÂ
🥉APOLLO ONEÂ
3:35 – Ascot: BetMGM Challenge Cup Cl2 (3yo+) 7f ITV
18 runners here, so the final ITV race at the Berkshire track is another tricky Ascot puzzle to solve.
Top-weight Rahmi is interesting coming over from Ireland for Johnny Murtagh, having won well at Leopardstown last time – but is up 9lbs more here.
NATIVE WARRIOR ticks a lot of boxes too and was a nice winner of the Schweppes here last time. Is up 8lbs but could still have more to come and Jamie Spencer, who was riding last time, remains in the saddle.
Thunder Roar would be of interest if there is any more rain.
Hickory for trainer Jamie Osborne, is respected too as he loves it here at Ascot. He’s run here eight times and hit the top three six times (2 wins).
The last of those course wins came last month over this trip on soft ground but has won on quicker.
That came in a Classified Stakes race and the only niggle is he’ll need a career-best off this mark of 93 (last win 86).
Finally, Akkadian Thunder is a tricky horse to catch right, but was well-fancied for this last year and didn’t get the best of runs.
Only two pounds higher here and with a bit more luck in-running can’t be ruled out either.
🥇NATIVE WARRIOR
🥈HICKORY
🥉AKKADIAN THUNDER
