Brazil Wants to Host 2029 FIFA Club World Cup

Under the leadership of CBF president Samir Xaud, Brazil has made itself available to host the FIFA Club World Cup in 2029.

Xaud has expressed his desire to bring Brazil closer to FIFA and believes the Club World Cup will be an excellent project to collaborate on.

The brainchild of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, the revamped Club World Cup is currently witnessing its first-ever iteration in the United States. Unlike the previous iterations, the Club World Cup features 32 teams this year. This month-long tournament, which will be held once in four years like the FIFA World Cup, will conclude on July 13 at the MetLife Stadium.

Brazilian teams have done exceedingly well in the Club World Cup this year. Botafogo have beaten Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, becoming only the fifth CONMEBOL club to beat their UCL winners in the 21st century. They have picked up six points from two games and have already qualified for the Round of 16.

Palmeiras are leading Group A and have not conceded even a single goal in two games. Flamengo have won both their matches in Group D, ensuring top spot with a 3-1 win over Chelsea on Matchday 2. Finally, the fourth Brazilian team this year, Fluminense, are also in a great position to qualify. After amassing four points from two games, they sit at the top of Group E, level on points with Borussia Dortmund.

Brazil Want to Host 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, President Confirms

CBF President Samir Xaud, overjoyed with his Brazilian teams’ performances at the Club World Cup, wished to host the tournament in 2029. In an interview with Globo, he confirmed that he had pitched his idea to Infantino.

He said (via Inside World Football):

I talked about my goals as head of the CBF and said that we want to be closer to FIFA.

I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs, and, finally, I made the country available to host the next World Cup. He (Infantino) was very happy and said that it was totally possible. Now we are going to work to make it happen. It will be a great goal.

Securing the 2029 Club World Cup hosting rights will not be easy for Brazil. Many nations have expressed their desire to host the competition, including Morocco and Australia. Morocco wishes to organise the tournament alongside 2030 FIFA World Cup co-hosts Spain and Portugal.

Brazil Hosting Club World Cup Could Solve the Tournament’s Biggest Issue

If Brazil get the green light to host the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, it could potentially solve the current iteration’s greatest issue. With football fans still limited in numbers, the US have struggled to fill the stadiums. Images of empty stands have flooded social media, with many questioning FIFA’s decision to host the tournament in the States.

While most teams have had to play in less-than-lively conditions, Brazilian sides have enjoyed boisterous support. The presence of a vocal 12th man has greatly helped their on-field showings.

Being a football-first country, Brazil understands the weight of such tournaments. They value the camaraderie in football, the essence of it. They know how important it is to cheer the players on from the stands. So, if they get the chance to host, the Club World Cup will undoubtedly turn into a month-long football fiesta.
