Liverpool Legend Carragher On the Mic

Jamie Carragher has dismissed any chance of Liverpool winning a coveted treble this season, with the former Red having doubts over Champions League glory.

Liverpool’s focus isn’t Champions League

Jamie Carragher didn’t mince his words on CBS this week, with the Liverpool legend seemingly confident that the Reds won’t win the Champions League this season.

When he was asked if Liverpool have any chance at winning what would be a historic treble, Carragher simply replied: “No… I just think the Champions League… I think the league is the most important for Liverpool this season.”

Liverpool are already into the Carabao Cup final and they hold a commanding lead in the Premier League, but after being shocked in the FA Cup by Plymouth last week, a quadruple is no longer on the cards.

Like many, Carragher believes that the demanding fixture schedule is going to get the better of Liverpool as we reach the business end of the season and three trophies could be too demanding for a team that will be exhausted by March.

“So I think once we start getting into March, April, I think the focus, if Liverpool are playing midweek Wednesday night, big Champions League game, on a Saturday I think for most people the league [will be the priority].

“I think Liverpool will win the league and the Carabao Cup.”

Carragher made 737 appearances for Liverpool and after winning the Champions League, two FA Cups and three Carabao Cups amongst other accolades, the 47-year-old is as qualified as anyone to discuss his team’s trophy hopes.

Liverpool still hopeful for treble

With a six point lead  in the Premier League and a massive Merseyside derby coming up on Wednesday night, the Reds hold the upper hand in the league with just 15 games to play.

There is of course a chance that Liverpool could still slip up in the league, but with their closest chasers in Arsenal battling new injuries every day, advantage is certainly with the current leaders.

The Carabao Cup is a different story for Liverpool, who have already booked their spot in the final against Newcastle.

After finishing top of the Champions League group stage, Liverpool are through to the last 16 again and still await the next round draw to find out who they will face in the last 16.
