Carabao Cup final

Four teams will begin their fight to reach the Carabao Cup final this week with the first-leg of the semi-finals.

Arsenal face Newcastle on Tuesday night before Liverpool travel to Tottenham on Wednesday. All four sides will look to gain an advantage before the second legs which take place on the week commencing February 3rd.

Liverpool are the reigning holders after ‘Jurgen Klopp’s Kids’ inspired the Reds to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

The Carabao Cup final is traditionally played at the end of February. However, this season, the showpiece clash will take place later on a later date than normal.

When Is The Carabao Cup Final?

The 2024-25 Carabao Cup final is set to take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, March 16.

The kick-off time for the final has not yet been confirmed. However, last season’s final kicked off at 3pm so it is expected to be the same.

Until 1999–2000, the final was played in late March or early April. Thereafter it has been played more often that not in late February.

When Each Of The Semi-Finalists Last Won The Carabao Cup

Of the four sides still in the competition, Liverpool are the only side to lift the trophy in the last 10 years.

Liverpool have won the trophy twice in the last three years. Their triumph last season was Jurgen Klopp’s final trophy at the club.

They also hold the record for most final wins in the competition’s history with 10 – two ahead of Manchester City.

Tottenham last won the trophy in 2008 by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final. This remains the last major piece of silverware they have won.

It was the fourth time they lifted the trophy and they have since lost in finals to Chelsea in 2015 and Manchester City in 2021.

Arsenal have only won the competition twice – the last being a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in 1993.

Since then they have lost in finals to Chelsea (2007), Birmingham City (2011) and Manchester City (2018).

Newcastle are the only side not to win the League Cup, with their last piece of silverware coming in 1955 – six years before the League Cup was introduced.

They have lost in finals to Manchester City (1976) and Manchester United (2023).

How To Watch The Final

The Carabao Cup final will be shown live on Sky Sports and ITV.

It comes after the broadcasters reached an agreement to give UK football fans to watch select Carabao Cup and Championship games for the next two years.

In May, a statement from the EFL read: “The new deal starts in January 2025, commencing with the Carabao Cup semi-finals, running until the end of the 2026/27 season and means ITV will jointly broadcast a select number of games also available on Sky Sports. The new arrangement has also been approved by EFL Clubs in accordance with the League’s regulations. Each full season, ITV will screen at least nine Carabao Cup matches in total, including:

  • One tie from each of the first four rounds
  • One additional tie from either the third or fourth round
  • Two quarter-final ties
  • One semi-final tie
  • The Final

“Additionally, ITV will simulcast 10 matches from the EFL Championship each full season, and five matches in the second half of the 2024-25 season, with the option to flex their selection to matches from League One or League Two.”
