Tottenham have triggered a one-year extension in Son Heung-min’s contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 2026.

The Spurs skipper was set to become a free agent this summer. Son Heung-min entered the final six months of his deal on New Year’s Day.
Barcelona were reportedly interested in signing the South Korean superstar. However, Spurs have now extended Son’s contract, ruling out the possibility of losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Spurs said: “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Son’s contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026.
“Having joined the club in August 2015, Sonny, 32, has become a global star during his time with us and a modern-day great for Tottenham Hotspur.”
Son: A Modern-Day Tottenham Great
Since joining the club in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, Son has scored 169 goals in 431 appearances across all competitions.
Son was part of the side that finished runners-up in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League and in the EFL Cup in 2020-21.
Most famously, Son won the 2020 FIFA Puskas Award after his stunning solo effort against Burnley in a Premier League fixture in the 2019-20 season.
Son also won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 and has landed the Player of the Month award on four separate occasions. He has also won Goal of the Month twice during his time at Tottenham.
