2025 Juddmonte International Stakes A Truly Global Affair

There might only be six Juddmonte International Stakes runners in the big Group One at York on Wednesday – but we’ve horses coming from all over the world.

The two main players – Delacroix and Ombudsman – will fly the flag for Ireland and Britain.

But we’ve also two runners from France in Birr Castle and the unbeaten Daryz.

Plus, a rare raider from Japan – Danon Decile, who is certainly no back number having beaten this year’s King George winner Calandagan in Meydan back in April.

With the final runner See The Fire, from the Andrew Balding team in the UK.

Juddemonte Stakes Runners and Betting Odds 2025

  • Delacroix 2/1
  • Ombudsman 2/1
  • Danon Decile 11/2
  • See The Fire 8/1
  • Daryz 10/1
  • Birr Castle 80/1

83% Of The Last 23 Juddmonte International Winners Finished 1st or 2nd Last Time

Having finished in the first two in their most recent race has been a decent Juddmonte International Stakes trend to look for – with 19 of the last 23 (83%) ticking this stat.

Looking at the six Juddmonte International Stakes runners – this is a plus for all barring See The Fire (3rd) and Birr Castle (4th).

What Is The Best Juddmonte Stakes Age?

Based on recent years – there isn’t really a standout age.

In the last 10 runnings the race has produced a splattering of 3, 4 and 5 year-old winners.

And with ALL the 2025 Juddmonte runners this year aged between 3-5, there’s not a lot to go on here.

Since the race was first run in 1972 – only one 6+ year-old winner (Twice Over, 2011).

Stall One Has A Shocking Juddmonte Recent Record

In the last 23 runnings of the Juddmonte – we’ve not seen a winner from stall 1.

Meaning the French runner – Daryz – has this stat to overcome.

In contrast, the better draws in recent times have been between 2-6 – with 9 of the last 10 fitting the bill here.

With stall 6 having the best return since 2016, with three wins – but this has been given to rank outsider Birr Castle this year.

Juddmonte Stalls

  • Delacroix – 3
  • Ombudsman – 5
  • Danon Decile – 4
  • See The Fire – 2
  • Daryz -1
  • Birr Castle – 6

Previous York Experience Not Essential

17 of the last 23 winners (74%) were having their first run at York too – meaning previous experience of the Knavesmire track is certainly not essential.

Backed up again last year when the winner City Of Troy was winning at York for the first time.

City Of Troy is yet to race at York.

The only runner this year to have run at York before is See The Fire – but, on a plus, is 2-from-2 at the track.

Juddmonte International Stakes Favourites Have A Great Record

This year’s Juddmonte favourite might not be known until the off time – with both Delacroix and Ombudsman tight in the market with the horse racing betting sites.

But whichever horses does go off as the jolly – this is not a bad thing. As 12 of the last 23 market leaders have won the race.

With the most recent City Of Troy only last year (2024).

Respect Trainers Aidan O’Brien and John Gosden

Finally, in terms of trainers to note – look no further than Aidan O’Brien and John Gosden – the pair have won the prize seven times in the last 12 runnings.

Gosden has only recently got on the Juddmonte scoresheet, with his first winner coming in 2018 (Roaring Lion) but hasn’t wasted time in catching up with successes in 2021 (Mishriff) and 2023 (Mostahdaf).

O’Brien has a record seven wins in total and four of those have come since 2013 with his most recent City Of Troy in 2024.

Aidan O’Brien is the winning-most trainer in the race – having overtaken Sir Michael Stoute when winning 12 months ago.

This year – O’Brien and Gosden go head-to-head again with Delacroix and Ombudsman both in their care.

While the ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin, who own Ombudsman, have five past wins in the race. With their most recent Ghaiyyath in 2020.

Juddmonte Stakes Tip – Based On The Trends

The Juddmonte Stakes trends really do put a lot in favour of the two main players Delacroix and Ombudsman.

Both head here in form after a battle in the Coral-Eclipse (watch below).

While the pair have good draws in 3 and 5 respectively and hail from trainers that have top records in the race.

However, being the winning-most trainer in the race (7 wins) Aidan O’Brien’s DELACROIX just edges it.

He’s the York horse racing tip to uphold the form of his narrow Eclipse win over Ombudsman at Sandown – but it should be another fascinating tactical affair between the two riders William Buick and Ryan Moore.

With Moore the call to come out on top again and bag his fourth success in the race.
