Katie Taylor has confirmed that she is ‘very open’ to the idea of fighting ex-UFC champion Ronda Rousey.

Rumours are circulating that Rousey is debating a move to boxing, with a potential fight against Taylor already being negotiated.

Katie Taylor ‘Very Open’ To Ronda Rousey Boxing Fight

Women’s boxing trailblazer Katie Taylor has confirmed that she is ‘very open’ to a fight with ex-UFC champion Ronda Rousey in the boxing ring.

Taylor was last seen defeating bitter rival Amanda Serrano in their trilogy bout on the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard, which saw viewership of over 6,000,000 streams.

Rousey on the other hand was last seen competing in the UFC way back in 2016, but has enjoyed success in WWE since retiring from MMA almost a decade ago.

Rousey has been seen ramping up training once again in recent weeks, sparking debate over who she would face on her return and in what combat sport discipline. It seems that Rousey is toying with the idea of boxing, with Taylor firmly in her sights.

The Irish boxing star has nothing left to prove in boxing, with Taylor’s husband Sean McCavanagh perhaps even hoping his wife would retire so the pair could spend more time together.

However, it has been revealed this week that talks over a potential summer showdown between Taylor and Rousey are well underway. Taylor all but confirmed this herself too, stating that it would be an honour to fight Rousey in the boxing ring:

“It’s a fight that will interest and capture the imagination of the fans and that’s what boxing needs. I’d be very, very happy to fight Ronda. I’m very open to these kinds of fights where all generations can sit down and watch boxing.

“I’m very, very open… to fighting Ronda Rousey. Absolutely open to it, for sure,” Taylor told BoxingScene.

Katie Taylor vs Ronda Rousey Negotiations Underway

Promoter Eddie Hearn issued a Katie Taylor retirement update during the summer, revealing that the Irish boxing icon may well never return to the ring unless it is a big fight at Croke Park back home in her beloved Ireland.

However, it now looks like ‘KT’ will indeed fight again. With nothing left to prove in boxing, Taylor has been forced to look elsewhere for potential opponents. One name that has cropped up recently that excites her is a bout with ex-UFC champion Ronda Rousey.

Not only does this fight appeal to Taylor, but it has a real chance of happening. Lance Pugmire of BoxingScene reported that a fight between the pair is already in negotiations for a summer showdown in 2026.

With the fight already in talks, Taylor has expressed her opinions on the bout and why exactly it excites her.

“I consider it an absolute privilege to be in this position… Ronda Rousey makes sense. [Rousey’] has such a huge following,” Taylor said.

“It would be an amazing privilege to step into the ring with such a legend – not just in UFC, but women’s sports as a whole,” the Irish boxing legend told BoxingScene.

It remains to be seen whether these negotiations go any further, with talks still in the early stages.

That being said, Taylor vs Rousey is a huge fight for combat sports, which would undoubtedly attract millions of eyeballs from all across the globe.

Katie Taylor’s net worth is already well over £3million, but it may grow even further with talk of this mammoth Ronda Rousey showdown next summer.
