Popular sports stars such as Rory McIlroy, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Anthony Joshua look set to end their investments in the Alpine F1 team.

Otro Capital consortium are reportedly considering their long-term investment as Alpine’s struggles continue at rock-bottom of the F1 Constructors championship.

Rory McIlroy and Fellow Sports Stars Set To Pull Plug On Alpine F1 Investment

According to Sports Business Journal, Rory McIlroy and fellow Otro Capital consortium investors are set to pull the plug on their investment in Alpine F1 team.

It’s been reported that Otro Capital have held ‘preliminary discussions about selling its stake’ due to Alpine’s poor form.

Career Grand Slam winner McIlroy is amongst a team of several sporting stars who bought 24% of British F1 racing team Alpine back in 2023.

Alpine are currently rock-bottom of the F1 constructors championship standings, having just recorded 20 points all season.

Talks are now officially underway, but are at an early stage. Should McIlroy and co pull the plug on their investment, a sale would likely yield a profit of £165million for the Otro Capital consortium.

Alongside McIlroy the likes of former two-time world boxing champion Anthony Joshua, England and Real Madrid star footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold and even Kansas City Chiefs’ NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are considering ending their investment in Alpine F1 team too.

Although McIlroy’s investment in Alpine will generate a profit should he and Otro Capital sell their shares, it would be one less stress on his mind as the Northern Irishman prepares for the new golf season in 2026 and beyond.

Rory McIlroy’s next tournament is set to be the Abu Dhabi Championship from 6-9 November, and withdrawing his Alpine F1 investment may well help clear his head as the 2025 golf season comes to a close.

Rory McIlroy, Anthony Joshua and Trent Alexander-Arnold Amongst Unhappy Alpine F1 Investors

Although Rory McIlroy is one of the most involved members of Otro Capital consortium having attended numerous F1 races since his investment began in 2023, a whole host of other successful sports stars are also considering pulling the plug.

NFL stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are just two other big names in the consortium with invested interests in Alpine F1, as are the likes of Anthony Joshua, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Juan Mata and even Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

It’s now being reported that McIlroy and co are seriously considering their long-term involvement in Alpine, partly due to the F1 team’s struggles on the track this season.

Investments in Alpine evidently hang in the balance right now, with the potential sale of Otro Capital’s 24% share having carrying effects on each investor.

Five-time major champion McIlroy for example has plenty of other investments and interests away from golf with several other successful business ventures.

This includes TGL, the indoor simulator golf league that he started alongside 15-time major champion and friend Tiger Woods back in 2022. He also invests in Whoops, a fitness tech company amongst much more.

McIlroy has the most runner-up finishes at major championships since 2015, but broke that duck at The Masters this year as he completed the career Grand Slam at Augusta.

Pulling his investment from Alpine F1 may be the next step in winning further majors in 2026 and beyond as he looks to regain his best form just in time for the new season.
