Former Watford forward has criticised Tottenham Hotspur’s half-time gesture during their 2-2 draw with Newcastle United on Tuesday, calling it ’embarrassing.’
Deeney Criticises Tottenham Half-Time Huddle
After losing their previous three games, Tottenham came to St. James’ Park looking to get their campaign back on track. However, their first-half performance was unconvincing, with Newcastle creating more goal-scoring opportunities.
Before going down the tunnel at half-time, Tottenham’s outfield players came together for a huddle on the pitch.
It was the second game that Spurs players had a huddle at half-time. They also did it in the 2-1 defeat against Fulham on Saturday.
Ex-Watford man Troy Deeney claimed that the huddle was an exhibition of togetherness for the public and found it embarrassing.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Deeney said:
“Grow up. Do me a favour. It’s embarrassing.
“They want to show they’re together. You know how you should show you’re together? By being together.”
Tottenham’s gesture comes amid rumours of a disconnect between the club and the fans.
On Saturday, a section of fans booed Guglielmo Vicario after his costly error against Fulham.
Gabby Agbonlahor criticised Tottenham fans who booed the player, with coach Thomas Frank also questioning their credibility as Spurs supporters.
Frank’s comments have reportedly annoyed Tottenham supporters, who have grown frustrated with the team’s poor run of form. Spurs have not won in the league since beating Everton 3-0 at the end of October.
After Tuesday’s draw, Tottenham sit in a provisional 11th place in the table with 19 points from 14 games. They are currently on a five-game winless run in the league, which has put Frank under immense pressure.
Betting experts believe the Lilywhites could sack the Danish coach does not improve quickly. The Tottenham next manager betting odds suggest Mauricio Pochettino’s return could be on the cards.
Cristian Romero’s Overhead Kick Salvages Draw For Tottenham
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero led from the front to prevent a fourth consecutive defeat for the club on Tuesday night.
In the 78th minute, Romero equalised for Spurs, converting from their first effort on target. The 2022 World Cup winner dispatched a diving header to beat Aaron Ramsdale from close range.
Newcastle restored their one-goal cushion in the 86th minute, with Anthony Gordon converting from the penalty spot.
The Magpies appeared to have secured the win with that goal, but Romero scored a spectacular goal to deny them.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Mathys Tel delivered a corner into the Newcastle box, which Ramsdale tried to punch clear.

Instead, the ball went up into the air, allowing Romero to catch everyone by surprise and connect with an overhead kick. The ball nestled into the bottom-right corner, securing a crucial point for Tottenham.
