Marco Asensio in Action for PSG

Four European clubs, including two from the Premier League, are interested in signing Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the January transfer window.

After running down his contract with Real Madrid, former Spain international Marco Asensio joined PSG as a free agent in July 2023. Having won it all in the Spanish capital, Asensio wanted to try a new challenge, and PSG were happy to offer him a three-year deal.

Asensio hoped to become a regular in the French capital. However, with him struggling with injuries and competition for places rising under Luis Enrique, the winger fell down the pecking order. Last season, Asensio only played 19 games in Ligue 1, starting just 13 of them. His output was also below par, as he only scored four goals and provided five assists in the French top flight.

The situation has not improved this season, with Enrique significantly reducing his minutes in the last couple of months. Asensio’s last start for PSG came against Toulouse on 23rd November. He has since played just 18 minutes across two games, warming the bench in five outings.

Two Premier League Clubs Want to Sign PSG Outcast Marco Asensio

With his playing time compromised in Paris, there have been reports linking him with a move away from Parc des Princes. According to journalist Ekrem Konur (via Spanish outlet Fichajes.net), as many as four top clubs are interested in signing him in the January transfer window. In addition to Serie A giants Juventus and La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, Premier League duo Aston Villa and Newcastle United have also reportedly thrown their hats in the ring.

Although Asensio’s current deal with PSG runs until June 2026, French outlet L’Equipe has reported that the Spaniard is not in Enrique’s plans. It is believed that Les Parisiens will not try to keep Asensio if they receive the right offer for the player.

Asensio, a three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, has played 46 games for the Parisians in all competitions since the start of the 2023-24 season. He has scored seven goals and provided 11 assists, winning one Ligue 1 title and one Coupe de France trophy.
