Premier League clubs are racing against time to finalise their signings, with the 2025/26 summer transfer window closing in less than a week.
The transfer window will close for other major European leagues, such as LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 on the same day.
When Does the Summer Transfer Window Close?
The summer transfer window for the 2025/26 season closes on Monday, September 1. This year, the window shuts at 7:00 PM for Premier League and EFL clubs, four hours earlier than usual.
This means Liverpool, who are 8/13 with football betting sites to sign Alexander Isak, have only four days to push the deal over the line.
- Day and Date: Monday, September 1, 2025
- Time: 7:00 PM BST
- Leagues Affected: Premier League and EFL Clubs
For transfers from and to English clubs, teams usually get a two-hour grace period to complete the deal after the transfer window closes. However, the grace period is applicable only if the paperwork is submitted to the FA before the deadline.
For transfers from abroad, teams generally have until midnight to send the documents to FIFA.
Transfer Window Closing Time in Other Leagues
The other four major European leagues, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 will also see their transfer window close on September 1. However, the timings are different.
- LaLiga: Transfer window closes at 10:59 PM BST on September 1.
- Serie A: Transfer window closes at 7:00 PM BST on September 1.
- Bundesliga: Transfer window closes at 7:00 PM BST on September 1.
- Ligue 1: Transfer window closes at 7:00 PM BST on September 1.
Can Clubs Loan Players After Transfer Window Closes?
No, clubs cannot sign a player on loan after the transfer window closes. Any standard loan deal only holds if the registration process is concluded during an open transfer window.
Exception
In some exceptional cases, clubs are allowed to sign a goalkeeper on loan outside of the transfer window. This happens only when there are no backup goalkeepers available.
This is a very rare occurrence and tightly regulated.
Free Agents Can Join Any Time
While clubs cannot sign players on loan outside of the transfer window, free agents are fair game.
Since the players are out of contract, clubs can sign them and register them any time. The key requirement is the player must have been a free agent before the transfer window closed.
UEFA competitions, however, have a registration cut-off, generally in September and February. If the player is not registered before the deadline, they are not eligible to play in the competition.
Premier League Clubs Set £2.6 Billion Transfer Record
Premier League is home to some of the richest clubs in the world. This summer, they have come together to take the league’s transfer spending to a record £2.6 billion.
According to Sky Sports, the majority of said funds have been spent on forwards. The league have splurged a jaw-dropping £1.4 billion on attackers, with Liverpool spending the biggest chunk on signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
As for Florian Wirtz, it's too early to judge and we will see more from him. He is a world class footballer and needs time to adjust to the team and league.
Once it clicks, nobody will be able to live with him. His time will definitely come.

The German joined the club for £100 million, with the price potentially rising to £116 million, including add-ons. He has, however, struggled to live up to expectations and has seen his price drop in FPL price changes for Gameweek 3.
With roughly £291.9 million spent on summer transfers (excluding add-ons), Liverpool have been the highest spending club in the summer transfer window. Arsenal are second in the rankings, having spent £252.6 million on summer arrivals.
