Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been called 'Mourinho 2.0' warning

Manchester United welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, but newly-appointed Ruben Amorim won’t be in the dugout for the clash.

Will Ruben Amorim Be In Charge For Manchester United Against Chelsea?

Amorim was officially confirmed as United’s new head coach on Friday following the sacking of Erik ten Hag earlier in the week.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was appointed interim manager, took charge of the team for United’s 5-2 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

Since then, many have been wondering whether Amorim will take on the managerial duties immediately, starting with United’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

Well, no, he won’t. Although Amorim’s appointment has been officially announced by the club in a statement, he won’t be in the dugout for the Chelsea clash.

Instead, United will be managed by Van Nistelrooy once again.

Ruben Amorim Man Utd Start Date

Despite the official announcement, Ruben Amorim doesn’t actually start the United job until November 11. This was confirmed in the club’s statement on Friday:

“Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements.

“He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.

“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins.”
