Will the real Lamar Jackson please stand up?

The 2022 NFL schedule should give the Baltimore Ravens quarterback a great chance to prove himself because his status has bounced up and down over the last few years.

He was the undisputed MVP in 2019 after throwing for a league-high 36 touchdowns while pairing his 3,127 passing yards with another 1,206 on the ground. But he hasn’t returned to that level since and struggled to keep the Ravens on the winning side of the ledger even when he was healthy last year. Baltimore went 7-5 in his 12 starts and missed the playoffs with an 8-9 overall record.

If he really is “that guy,” the team needs more from him in 2022 despite Marquise “Hollywood” Brown’s departure via trade to the Arizona Cardinals and the pass-catching cohorts becoming even more reliant on the sure hands of tight end Mark Andrews. Plus, he should benefit from regression to the mean in the health department — not just for himself, but for the team as a whole since the running back corps can’t possibly be decimated to the same extent.

Between Kyle Hamilton, Tyler Linderbaum, David Ojabo, Travis Jones, and more, the Ravens put together a sterling draft class filled with immediate contributors, one that ended up drawing the No. 2 overall score in Sportscasting’s official ranking. That could be all they need to get back into the postseason fray given the established talents on both ends of the field.

Of course, that’s on paper. They still have to win the games.
