Welcome to our week-to-week breakdown of Sportscasting’s season-long NFL quarterback competition.

The process here was quite simple. We handed out grades to every single signal-caller who qualifies every week of the 2022 NFL regular season. Those marks were then entered into a database where our unique mathematical formula calculated a running tally for the year.

And the QB with the highest score at the end of the year was declared the winner — don’t be surprised if that same man wins NFL MVP.

Easy enough, right?

And even easier is how you can track your favorite QB’s progress. Simply click on each link to reveal that week’s grades as well as the accumulated scores and standings to that point in the year. We’ve also provided the top performers for each installment as a bit of a preview.

So without further ado, let’s get to it.

Week 1

Patrick Mahomes took the early lead with a dynamic Week 1 performance for the Kansas City Chiefs in a win over the Arizona Cardinals, throwing for 360 yards and five touchdowns. On the other end of the spectrum was Dak Prescott, who not only had a dismal outing for the Dallas Cowboys in a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but suffered a thumb injury on top of it.

Week 2

Week 2 saw four perfect scores handed out, including two from the same game as Tua Tagovailoa’s Miami Dolphins and Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens engaged in a duel for the ages. Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts joined the A+ club as well. We also handed out our first two failing grades of the year in this installment.

Week 3

Trevor Lawrence took the only perfect grade of the Week 3 NFL slate with a fantastic outing against the LA Chargers, ending the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 18-game road losing streak. We also saw a new No. 1 as Patrick Mahomes fell from the top spot for the first time.

Week 4

As more and more quarterbacks began to take the field, we introduced the reserve room in Week 4, which houses those signal-callers who aren’t current starters but have qualified for a grade at some point throughout the season. For the second straight week, we distributed just one perfect score, one we thought we’d never see. Josh Allen also lost his No. 1 spot after just one week.

Week 6

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes continued their fight in Week 6, both here and on the field, as the Bills and Chiefs clashed on the field in Kansas City, with Buffalo taking a 24-20 victory. We also handed out a few A grades that we didn’t expect, one of which went to a rookie who jumped into the top 5.

Week 7

Week 7 saw plenty of movement in the overall standings. Tom Brady took a slight dip, as did Lamar Jackson following another lackluster outing, while Joe Burrow continued his ascent up the leaderboard.

Week 8

Week 8 brought the most perfect scores we’ve had to date. While most were distributed to names you’d expect, one was handed out to a quarterback who’s spent the entire season near the bottom of the pack. Josh Allen was one who didn’t receive a perfect score — not even close, actually, as he recorded his worst grade of the season to this point to fall from the No. 1 spot.

Week 9

The games leading into the halfway point of the 2022 NFL season brought lots of movement in the standings. With a second straight lackluster performance, Josh Allen dropped out of the top three while Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts made their way in. But in perhaps the most surprising drop of the entire year, two-time reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers fell out of the top half.

Week 10

Well, after a week out of the top 16, Aaron Rodgers made his way back in with a dynamite performance against the Dallas Cowboys. Josh Allen, on the other hand, dropped in the overall standings yet again following a turnover-laced outing against the Minnesota Vikings.

Patrick Mahomes kept the No. 1 spot for the week with another perfect grade, but the race tightened as Tua Tagovailoa continued his hot streak with an A+ of his own.

Week 11

We saw a new record number of A+ performances in Week 11, which caused a lot of movement in the overall standings. One of those came from Jimmy Garoppolo, whose fantastic outing in Mexico City vaulted him into the top 10 for the first time.

Week 16
