F1 The Movie is now streaming on Apple TV.

From Apple Original Films comes F1, a sports drama set in the world of Formula 1.

Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a washed-up driver who was once on the fast track to stardom before a debilitating crash ended his career. 30 years after the crash, Sonny spends his days as a driver-for-hire, traveling as a nomad from job to job.

After winning at Daytona, Sonny is recruited back into Formula 1 by his former teammate, Rubén Cervantes (Javier Bardem), the owner of the struggling APXGP F1 team.

If Rubén’s team does not win one of the remaining races on the schedule, APXGP will be sold, and he will be out of a job.

Rubén offers Sonny a spot on the team as a driver, but he really needs the veteran racer to mentor Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a cocky rookie who needs to be humbled.

F1‘s cast also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, Sarah Niles, Will Merrick, and Shea Whigham.

Joseph Kosinski directs F1 from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, based on a story by Kosinski and Kruger. Producers include Pitt, Kosinski, Lewis Hamilton, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman.

As he did on Top Gun: Maverick, Kosinski incorporated an immersive filmmaking style, with Pitt and Idris driving in many of the movie’s scenes.

F1 filmed on location at many of the Grand Prix weekends on the Formula One schedule. As a result, many of the real-life drivers appeared in the film, including Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen.

F1 The Movie Became One of the Year’s Biggest Hits

Released in June, F1 became Apple’s first box office hit, opening to $146.3 million worldwide, including $57 million in the United States and Canada. F1 ended its theatrical run with a worldwide haul of $631 million, higher than Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

F1 received fantastic reviews and sits at 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.

F1 garnered two Golden Globe nominations, including Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer).

F1 The Album has surpassed 650,000 albums sold worldwide and tallied over one billion global streams.

Apple and the film’s producers have discussed sequel ideas.
