Buoyed by a historic performance from Anthony Davis (who had 27 points and 25 rebounds), the Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night in a 120-109 win over a team that was without Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns.

It was the second straight victory for the Los Angeles Lakers and featured a historic stat line for Anthony Davis. Two days after stopping the Bucks at home in a 123-122 nailbiter, the squad dominated Minnesota on Sunday night led by Davis, who put in one of the finest performances of his career and became the first NBA player to score more than 25 points while posting at least 25 rebounds and 5 steals in a game.

29 points for LeBron James

Davis racked up 27 points, 25 rebounds (including 21 in the second half), 5 assists, 7 steals, and 3 blocks in the Lakers’ 12th win in 17 games. The two-time All-Star wasn’t even the night’s top scorer, as LeBron James scored 29 points (also adding 9 assists and 8 rebounds) and Austin Reaves added 19 of his own.

In Los Angeles, Minnesota had the opportunity to regain the Western Conference lead but fell one place to third behind Denver( who were on a two-game losing streak) despite 25 points from Naz Reid (who added 5 rebounds) and Anthony Edwards (who also had 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists).

Just after being fined $100,000 for a gesture insinuating that a referee was corrupt during the game against Cleveland on Friday night (followed by blunt remarks about the influence of sports betting), Rudy Gobert did not play, having been hit in the right hamstring. Karl-Anthony Towns was also absent, as he is still recovering from a torn meniscus in his left knee.
