Stop me if you’ve heard this before. The Dallas Cowboys entered the postseason with Super Bowl aspirations, won a playoff game in convincing fashion to inspire more hope, then folded under the pressure and failed to reach the NFC Championship.

This pattern has become too familiar for long-suffering Cowboys fans, as the franchise has now gone 27 straight years and 12 straight playoff appearances without reaching the conference title game. Dak Prescott, who threw two inexcusable interceptions and managed just 12 points against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, was the main reason why Dallas fell short again this year, and he’s rightfully hearing the criticism everywhere you look. And I mean everywhere.

Prescott played so poorly that even his own team is bashing him with a bizarre tweet that has since gone viral.

In what has become almost a yearly occurrence, the Cowboys once again failed to reach their Super Bowl expectations and fell short of the NFC Championship. Dallas hasn’t reached the conference title game since 1996, and it’s now gone 12 straight playoff appearances without getting past the Divisional round.

For the second consecutive year, the Cowboys were knocked out of the playoffs by the 49ers. And for the second consecutive year, Prescott was to blame.

The inconsistent quarterback completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 206 yards and a touchdown. The difference, though, was his two brutal interceptions that led to six San Francisco points, the second of which came in the red zone when the Cowboys had a chance to take a lead into the halftime locker room.

When Dallas got the ball back with three minutes remaining trailing by seven, Prescott threw two atrocious passes and took a sack on third down to go three-and-out and essentially end the game. Time and time again, Prescott plays his worst football in the biggest moments. All he needed to do was play an average game and take care of the ball, and the Cowboys would’ve won.

But he didn’t, and the criticism is flowing in from all over the place.

Dak Prescott blamed by the Cowboys in bizarre tweet

Cowboys fans are understandably sick and tired of falling short in the playoffs, and it seems the team itself is getting fed up with Prescott’s postseason blunders. Shortly after the loss, the Cowboys official Twitter account sent out a bizarre tweet blatantly blaming Prescott for the loss.

“Dak Prescott gave away the ball twice in the narrow loss to the 49ers, in a matchup the Cowboys had a chance to win if they didn’t again generate self-inflicted wounds,” the tweet read. The accompanying article told a bleak story of the loss and Prescott’s performance, causing the tweet to quickly go viral.

This isn’t normal behavior for a team’s official Twitter account. Even after blowout losses, a team’s website will highlight the bright spots and downplay the poor performances. Team employees are inherently biased, and they never want to paint a bad picture for the fans.

But this tweet was purposefully framed to send a message to Prescott, which doesn’t make much sense considering he still has three more years left on the $160 million contract extension he signed in 2021. Prescott isn’t going anywhere, and no negative tweet is going to change that.
