Three weeks after Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55, lifelong Chiefs fan Clint Bowyer finally paid up on a bet he lost to Bucs fan Aric Almirola and did so in spectacular style smashing a Lombardi Trophy on pit road before the start of NASCAR’s Dixie Vodka 400 in Homestead.

Clint Bowyer and Aric Almirola make bet on Super Bowl 55

Last season Clint Bowyer and lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan Jeff Gordon bet on Super Bowl 54. Gordon lost the wager and wore a No. 24 Chiefs jersey during the broadcast of the Busch Clash at Daytona.

A year later, Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan Aric Almirola wanted some action with Bowyer and made a similar bet — the loser being forced to wear the opposing team’s jersey during an interview.

Unfortunately for Bowyer, the tables were turned on his Chiefs in Super Bowl 55 as Tom Brady and the Buccaneers convincingly claimed the title 31-9. Bowyer would be donning a Bucs jersey.

Aric Almirola calls out Clint Bowyer

Following Aric Almirola’s victory in Duel 1 at Daytona and just a few days after his Bucs won the Super Bowl, he let the world know about the bet with Clint Bowyer in his post-race interview.

“It’s been a long time since I got to sit here and do an interview at the start-finish line. Things are going right for Tampa Bay, huh, Clint Bowyer?” Alrmirola smiled as he walked away.

Not surprisingly, up in the booth, the Fox crew jumped on Bowyer, especially Jeff Gordon. Bowyer said he planned on honoring the bet and wearing the Buccaneers jersey the next day.

Bowyer smashes Lombardi Trophy

Three weeks have passed since the game and Clint Bowyer had yet to publicly wear the Bucs jersey as promised. That all changed on Sunday at the Dixie Vodka 400 when Fox opened it NASCAR pre-race show with a segment featuring Tyler Reddick fishing on Lake Homestead, where he reeled in a Tom Brady No. 12 jersey and a Lombardi Trophy.

Fast-forward moments later to the NASCAR RaceDay broadcast crew of Chris Myers, Jeff Gordon, and Bowyer standing on pit road, the latter wearing a bright red Brady jersey and holding the Lombardi Trophy. As Gordon laughed, Bowyer addressed his attire.

“A bet’s a bet, right? So I’m wearing it, Aric,” Bowyer said dejectedly looking down at the ground. “Brady, he beat us. Fair and square, he beat us.”

“Clearly, Brady didn’t throw it perfectly every time,” Gordon chimed in, referring to the future Hall of Famer’s toss of the Lombardi Trophy over water during the Buccaneers’ boat parade and celebration.

“He’s won so many it’s just no big deal anymore. He just throws them,” Clint Bowyer responded and then casually flipped the shiny silver trophy behind him, shattering it into pieces on pit road.

Gordon let out a big laugh. Somewhere down pit road, Aric Almirola got a gratifying laugh as well.
