Floyd Mayweather showed up in Miami on Thursday to promote his much-anticipated return to the boxing ring on June 6 for an exhibition fight against YouTube star Logan Paul. He left Hard Rock Stadium fuming after an altercation with Paul’s brother, Jake, who stole his hat. Jake left with the hat and a black eye.

Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather to fight on June 6 in Miami

The matchup between Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather is a bizarre one, for starters. Mayweather won 15 major world titles in his career and holds a 50-0 record. He won a bronze medal in the 1996 Olympics

When Mayweather won at the Olympics, Paul was a year old. Today, Mayweather is 44, and Paul is 26. Age disparity aside, the fight is purely an exhibition because of Paul’s experience, or lack thereof.

The Ohio native, who, along with his brother Jake, became famous because of their Vine and YouTube videos, has very limited experience in the squared circle. Paul played football and wrestled in high school, but no boxing.

His only boxing experience came in 2018 when he fought British YouTuber KSI to a draw in an amateur match. A year later, the pair held a rematch as professionals and Paul lost in split decision. Somehow that lengthy history in the ring earned him a fight with one of the greatest boxers of all time.

Mayweather gets into altercation with Jake Paul

On Thursday, Mayweather and Paul held a press conference at Hard Rock Stadium promoting next month’s fight. After the visit with the media is when things got interesting.

That’s when Jake Paul approached Mayweather and asked the former champion if he wanted to fight him the same night as his brother. The two jawed back and forth face-to-face for a few seconds before Paul snatched the hat off of Mayweather’s head.

“Got your hat,” Paul said as he abruptly turned to walk away. Mayweather’s entourage had other ideas and surrounded the internet star. In the scuffle, Paul took a shot to the face and later revealed the damage in a black eye.

Paul later admitted on Twitter it wasn’t Mayweather who connected.

“honestly have had 3 easy fights as a pro so been itching for some real action 1 of Floyd’s 30 bodyguards got a clean shot on me in the eye RESPECT!!”

Moments later, Mayweather’s bodyguards restrained the fighter as he tried to confront Paul again and threatened him.

“”I’ll kill that motherf—–!” he shouted.

Not surprisingly, many questioned whether it was all just a publicity stunt to generate more interest for next month’s fight. Mayweather shot those theories down.

“It’s one thing to sell a fight, and people can say what they want, but one thing no one is going to do is disrespect me,” he told reporters.

There’s quite a bit of irony in Mayweather feeling disrespected by an internet star when many purists believe that taking on a fight with either Paul is disrespectful to the sport in the first place.
