Josh Allen has become one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks. But is he the best? That’s certainly up for debate, and his teammate Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer recently made a bold declaration about Allen. However, guys like Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady may disagree.

Poyer thinks Allen is the league’s No. 1 quarterback.

Jordan Poyer joined the Bills in 2017 after spending his first four years with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. He has watched his team transform from one of the worst in football to arguably the best.

Buffalo missed the playoffs every season between 2000 and 2016 but has since been there in four of the last five years. And after going 6-10 in Josh Allen’s rookie campaign in 2018, the Bills have recorded 10-6, 13-3, and 11-6 records. They even reached the AFC Championship Game in 2020.

So, to say Poyer and his squad are confident would be an understatement. They know they can compete with the best of the best. And a lot of it has to do with Allen, the man who Poyer calls the best gunslinger the NFL has to offer.

“I think we have the right group of guys in the locker room to [win], obviously I think we have the best quarterback in the damn league, so that being said I think sky’s the limit for this team,” Poyer, who earned his first All-Pro selection in 2021, said on the Inside The Garage podcast, per NFL.com. “Buffalo’s been cool, man, I’ve enjoyed my time out there and definitely want to come away with a ring before I leave.”

Saying Allen is the best QB in the league is pretty bold, but is Poyer right?

Allen has a strong case. He was in the top five in passing yards and touchdowns in 2020 before ranking in the top eight in both categories in 2021. He was also third among QBs in rushing yards last season with 763.

The Wyoming product has the intangibles to be the top QB, but it’s hard to put him over guys like his fellow Match competitors Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady.

Rodgers has won the last two MVPs, which gives him four overall. He also has one Super Bowl ring. Mahomes has been in the last four AFC Championship Games and won it all during the 2019 season. He also won MVP in 2018. Brady, on the other hand, retired this offseason before changing his mind and coming back. He’s up there in age, but the seven-time champ led the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns in 2021.

There are also players like Joe Burrow, who led the Cincinnati Bengals to the Super Bowl in his second season last year, or Matthew Stafford and Russell Wilson, two championship-winning signal-callers.

So, is Josh Allen the best quarterback in the NFL? It’s hard to give him that title, but he at least deserves a spot in the conversation.
