Lionel Messi’s goal and assist helped Inter Miami beat Nashville 3-1 in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday. The Florida team is now through to the next round after drawing the first leg 2-2.

In fine form, Lionel Messi lifted his Inter Miami club into the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League (the confederation of soccer teams from Central and North America), scoring a goal and providing an assist as the Florida club beat Nashville SC 3-1 in the second leg of the Round of 16.

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Nashville, Miami quickly secured their place in the quarterfinals on home soil, already leading 2-0 after just 20 minutes thanks to a Luis Suarez goal from Messi’s assist at the back of the opposition’s defense in the 8th minute followed by a goal from “La Pulga” in the 23rd). Set up by Diego Gomez, the eight-time France Football Ballon d’Or winner scored with a swerving left-foot shot from the edge of the area. It was his 16th goal in an official match for Miami.

In the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals, Inter Miami will face the winner of the Round of 16 tie between Cincinnati and Monterrey Rayados; 1-0 winners in the first leg in the USA, the Mexican club will host Cincinnati on Thursday night).
