Week 3 in the ACC brings a matchup charged with momentum: Duke hosts NC State in Durham. The Blue Devils lean heavily on Tulane transfer QB Darian Mensah, who has thrown for over 300 yards in each of his first three games. Their offense has been explosive, but their defense has given up more than 220 passing yards per game and continued to struggle, as evidenced by a 34-27 loss to Tulane last week.

On the other side, NC State has shown balance. C.J. Bailey has accounted for multiple scores through the air and ground, and the Wolfpack’s top running back, Hollywood Smothers, is averaging over 125 yards per game on the ground. NC State forces defenses to commit, which opens up big plays both on the ground and in the pass game. The betting market currently makes Duke a −3.5 favorite with the total at 58 points, while NC State sits around +135 on the moneyline. Those figures suggest that bookmakers believe this game will be a tight and high-scoring affair.

Given the defensive vulnerabilities for Duke and NC State’s rushing strengths, a same game parlay tied to the underdog moneyline and Smothers’ rushing yardage looks like a strong play.

I’ve been high on this NC State offense all year, and we’re going to stick with it on this one. Let’s take a look!

Duke vs. NC State Odds

  • Spread favorite: Duke (-3)
  • Moneyline: Duke (-159), NC State (+135)
  • Total: 58.5 points

College Football Week 4 Same Game Parlay: Duke vs. NC State +

Leg 1: NC State Moneyline (+135)

  • Despite Duke’s recent offensive success, NC State is just a more complete team. Duke’s secondary has been inconsistent at best, and their defense struggles to stop dual-threats like Bailey and Smothers. I think this could be another long afternoon for Duke’s defense and first-year head coach Manny Diaz.

  • The Wolfpack have shown an ability to control pace with Smothers in the backfield and to avoid big turnover mistakes. Some may see a trap here, but I think NC State is up to the task.

Leg 2: Hollywood Smothers Over 115 Rushing Yards

  • Smothers has averaged over 125 rushing yards per game this season. Powerful backs have exploited Duke’s run defense in past games, and I think NC State has the balanced attack to keep Duke guessing.

  • If NC State leans on the run early to control the clock and protect Bailey, Smothers is likely to get a heavy carry share. Higher odds favor this play.

This Duke vs. NC State same game parlay leans into momentum, statistical mismatches, and game-flow logic. I understand that the consensus will be that this is a trap spot and line for the Wolfpack. In my opinion, NC State +135 offers good value, given Duke’s defensive soft spots and NC State’s balance. I fully believe Manny Diaz will be able to figure this defense out at Duke, but not this week.

Hollywood Smothers’ rushing yards prop rides directly on that same script: if State controls the line and leans run, his opportunity and upside go up substantially.

Both legs correlate well; a State victory is likely to come with strong run production and a controlled pace. As long as turnovers are kept in check and Duke’s explosive passing doesn’t dominate, this ticket can hit. At around +300 odds, this parlay gives a strong reward for a realistic outcome.

Best of luck!
