Alexandra Eala

Miami Open quarterfinalist and rising Filipina tennis star Alexandra Eala, currently ranked World No. 73, has not played tennis since losing in the Miami Open semifinals to Jessica Pegula on March 27.

The Miami Open was her breakout tournament where she nearly cut her ranking in half and beat three Grand Slam champions (Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiatek) in five days.

Her brief respite is about to end as Eala plans to begin her packed clay court schedule on April 14.

Alexandra Eala’s Clay Court Schedule

Eala has five tournaments on her list between April 14 and May 18.  In some instances, she has an alternate tournament planned during the WTA 1000 events if she cannot qualify, gain a wildcard entry into WTA 1000 events over the next month, or if she loses early.

  • April 14-20: WTA 125 Oeiras
  • April 21-27: WTA 1000 Madrid
  • April 28-May 4: WTA 1000 Madrid/WTA 125 Vich
  • May 5-11: WTA 1000 Rome
  • May 12-18: WTA 1000 Rome/WTA 125 Parma

The WTA 1000 Madrid event is near and dear to Eala’s heart.  She received wildcards in 2023 and 2024.  In 2024, she defeated then World No. 41 Ukranian Lesia Tsurenko which was the biggest win of her career at that time.

Given her history at Madrid and recent success in Miami, it seems likely that she will get a wildcard.  The question will be if she makes it to the second week or ends up playing the Catalonia Open in Vic, Spain.

Eala will celebrate another May milestone, her 20th birthday on May 23.

Alexandra Eala enjoyed success in juniors on the hard and clay courts.  She was the 2020 Australian Open and 2021 French Open doubles champion and the 2022 US Open singles champion.

As a graduate of the Rafael Nadal Academy, many expected that her break out event would be on clay.  While that did not turn out to be the case, she is a player to watch as the WTA clay court season marches on.
