Shane Beamer’s Contract at South Carolina
Beamer signed an extension with South Carolina earlier this year that runs through 2030. His salary for 2025 is set at $8.15 million and increases by $100,000 each year. That means his current deal is worth just over $50 million across the remaining term.
To pull him away, Virginia Tech would need to offer more, industry consensus is that a package of at least $10 million annually would be necessary to get him to consider leaving the SEC.
Shane Beamer Buyout for Virginia Tech
If Beamer left South Carolina in 2025, he would owe the school a $5 million buyout. That figure decreases by $1 million each year, but in the immediate future, the Hokies would have to absorb the full $5 million cost just to start negotiations.
Virginia Tech Still Owes Brent Pry
Firing Brent Pry wasn’t free. His contract required Virginia Tech to pay about $6 million in buyout money after cutting ties.
Those payments are already in motion and will continue into 2027. Any new contract for Beamer would sit on top of that financial obligation.
Staff Turnover and Transition Costs
When a new head coach arrives, so does a new staff. That means Virginia Tech would need to budget millions more to pay out Pry’s assistants and bring in Beamer’s preferred staff.
On average, this type of turnover can run between $3 and $7 million. Add in search firm fees, relocation costs, and administrative expenses, and the total grows quickly.
