Victor Wembanyama fights for a rebound.

Victor Wembanyama is a bit of an enigma to most casual basketball fans. If you follow the NBA at all, you probably know he’s the 7-foot-4 unicorn prospect who will go No. 1 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, but you’ve likely seen him play solely in YouTube highlight videos or occasional Twitter clips. The 18-year-old megastar chose to play professionally in France instead of attending college in the United States, so he rarely plays games aired on national television.

Well, if you wanted to get a closer look at Wembanyama and see what the hype is all about, I’ve got good news for you.

Tanking has been prevalent in the NBA for years, but the race for the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft will be like something we’ve never seen before. Why? Two words: Victor Wembanyama.

7-foot-4. 8-foot wingspan. Smooth handles. Silky jumper. Elite rim protector. That unique combination of physical features and raw skills simply doesn’t exist in the NBA. Not yet, at least.

Wembanyama is currently playing in the LNB Pro A league in France. In 11 games with the Metropolitans 92 this year, Wembanyama is averaging 23.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.1 blocks. He’s also shooting 51.4% from the field and 31.5% from three.

You don’t hear much about Wembanyama’s stat-stuffing performances because his games aren’t televised in the U.S. There is a way to watch the generational prospect, though, and it’s as easy as downloading an app.
