Victor Wembanyama
A highly touted French basketball prospect who has evolved into the overwhelming favorite to become the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, Victor Wembanya has inspired wonder with his combination of size and skill on the court. Not every 7-footer can knock down three-pointers with such smooth shooting form, much less put the ball on the floor and attack the basket.
For Wembanyama, the sky seems the limit at the NBA level. He’s viewed as a generational prospect, with some draftniks going as far as comparing his upside to the predraft version of LeBron James.
The Frenchman is listed as a forward/center and has played professionally for Nanterre 92, ASVEL, and Metropolitans 92 in his home country, and he’s also suited up for the French national team at both the junior and senior level.
Current team: Metropolitans 92
Former teams: Nanterre 92, ASVEL
Position: Forward/center
Draft status: Eligible in 2023
Nicknames: Wemby, The Alien, Blank Check
Victor Wembanyama unveiled a pair of outdoor basketball courts in his hometown of Le Chesnay, France ahead of the San Antonio Spurs’ European swing. Le Chesnay is city of roughly 30,000 people approximately 12 miles west of Paris. One court is for 5-on-5 play while the other is for 3-on-3 play. “It was my dream […]
It’s time for our first Most Improved Player ladder of the new calendar year. As we did previously, let’s discuss our top five most improved players of […]
Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama did their best to cheer up JJ Redick’s sons, Knox and Kai, by gifting them jerseys. Redick’s family home in the Pacific Palisades was burnt down, along with many other properties by the Los Angeles wildfires. Redick’s family is now living in a hotel. Both Knox and Kai are huge […]
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich released a statement Monday regarding the state of his health. The 75-year-old endured what was described as a mild stroke on Nov. 2 at Frost Bank Center and hasn’t returned to the team yet. Mitch Johnson, who has been an assistant with the Spurs since 2019, has served […]
Chris Paul must have had early dinner reservations in Portland last night, getting ejected in the very first quarter of San Antonio’s matchup against the Trail Blazers. Making the scene all the more bizarre, the veteran star received his two technical fouls in an 11-second span of game time to head to the showers. Bringing […]
It’s never too early to lose sleep over NBA awards. We’re about a third of the way through the season, a perfect time for our preliminary fake awards ballot. I don’t have a vote, but this is how I would choose each award winner if I had one. Most Valuable Player: Nikola Jokic Nikola Jokic […]

The excitement of Media Day and first day of school vibes of the start of the season are now replaced with very real questions about what the remainder of the year holds. Some teams like the Denver […]
Players of Victor Wembanyama’s magnitude are exceedingly rare. As a second-year pro, he’s already the best defender in the NBA, warping the court like few who have ever played can. To reach the loftiest of ceilings, he’ll need to continue improving on the offensive end. His offensive application has sparked debate throughout his NBA career. […]
Have you ever played whack-a-mole? It’s a classic carnival game where these little toy moles pop up and the contestant has to whack them as they peek their heads from tiny little holes. The objective is simple: hit the moles as many times as possible. But it’s easier said than done. As you hit one, […]
