With the betting odds released and the favorites being announced, there are some surprise names that can be wagered on, including that of Brian Daboll. Could the former New York Giants coach be interested in taking a step down from the NFL?
Would Brian Daboll Consider Stepping Down From The NFL?
After winning the NFL Head Coach of the Year award in 2022, Daboll had plenty of struggles with the Giants in the following seasons. Before his firing in November, he had posted an overall record of 20-40-1, including a mark of 5-22 over his final 27 contests.

There haven’t been any concrete leads regarding what Daboll’s next gig will end up being, but he does have a shot at landing the Michigan job. At least according to the oddsmakers.
At the moment, Kalen DeBoer is the betting favorite. Currently the head coach at Alabama, the 51-year-old DeBoer has had his future in question all season long. And despite the Crimson Tide qualifying for the College Football Playoffs, there is a strong chance that he is relieved of his duties if Alabama loses to Oklahoma in the first round.
If that were to happen, he’d instantly become one of the top candidates for any of the college football coaching vacancies, including Michigan. He is listed at +200 (33.3% implied odds).
DeBoer, Fisch Listed As Favorites For Michigan Job
DeBoer has a track record of winning everywhere he’s been, including leading Washington to the College Football Playoff. His modern offensive system, player development reputation, and temperament align closely with Michigan’s desire for continuity and long-term program stability.
Next on the list is Jedd Fisch, who also has a Washington connection. He is the current head coach of the Huskies, and was previously the head coach at Arizona. Fisch has some familiarity with the Michigan program having spent two years in Ann Arbor as an assistant, and he is listed at +325 (23.5%) behind DeBoer.

At +1200, Brian Daboll is considered something of a long shot. His implied odds figure sits at just 7.7%, and there is good reason for skepticism. Transitioning from the NFL to a college head coaching job is not a well-traveled path, and the responsibilities differ dramatically. Recruiting year-round, managing NIL expectations, overseeing the transfer portal, and serving as the public face of a massive university athletics department are all parts of the job, and it is unclear if Daboll is even willing to consider it.
This is especially true when considering that Daboll has spent 24 of the last 25 seasons at the professional level. But, his one year away from the NFL was spent at the University of Alabama, where he served as offensive coordinator under Nick Saban in 2017.
Other names on the list include Jon Gruden (+1000) and Joe Brady (+1200).
