Biggest Super Bowl Winning Margins

With the Kansas City Chiefs trailing 34-6 in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIX, we’re taking a look at the biggest Super Bowl winning margins ever.

The 2025 Super Bowl has so far failed to live up to the hype as a contest, with the Eagles running up a huge lead in the third quarter.

Philly led 24-0 at halftime as Jalen Hurts and the Eagles took complete control.

Patrick Mahomes could not get the Chiefs offence going, throwing two interceptions – including a pick-six.

Things got worse in the second half, with another field goal and a touchdown in the third quarter to stretch Philadelphia’s lead to 34-0.

The Chiefs got on the board to avoid a first Super Bowl shutout, but still trailed 34-6 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Biggest Super Bowl Winning Margins Ever

1. Super Bowl XXIV: San Francisco 49ers 55-10 Denver Broncos

It took a late comeback for the 49ers to win Super Bowl XXIII a year earlier. But things were very different this time.

Joe Montana completed 22 of 29 passes for 297 yards and five TDs. To this day, no team has scored more in the Super Bowl than San Francisco’s 55 against Denver.

2. Super Bowl XX: Chicago Bears 46-10 New England Patriots

In 1985, the Chicago Bears defence was virtually unplayable. They showed their quality at the Super Bowl with a huge performance as the Bears scored 44 unanswered points to set a Super Bowl record at the time.

3. Super Bowl XXVII: Dallas Cowboys 52-17 Buffalo Bills

In the first of two straight Super Bowl meetings between the Cowboys and Bills, Dallas became only the second team ever to hit 50 points in the Super Bowl.

Troy Aikman recorded 273 passing yards and four touchdowns in an MVP performance.

4. Super Bowl XLVIII: Seattle Seahawks 43-8 Denver Broncos

The second time Denver are on this list, and both times they take the L. The Seahawks went 36-0 up to record the biggest shutout lead in Super Bowl history.

But a third quarter TD from the Broncos meant they avoided suffering the first shutout ever at the Super Bowl.

5. Super Bowl XXII: Washington 42-10 Denver Broncos

If this list shows you anything, it’s not to back the Broncos in the Super Bowl.

Denver actually led 10-0 in the first quarter, but crumbled as Washington came from behind to record the fifth biggest Super Bowl winning margin ever.

MVP Doug Williams threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns, with running back Timmy Smith adding another 204 on the ground.
