I know Wimbledon is days away, but my mind still wanders ahead to late August when the reimagined US Open Mixed Doubles Championships are occurring. Teams are still being formed and considered as we speak, but we have seen a preliminary list already. Recall that 16 teams will participate in this first-of-its kind event. Eight will be selected based on rankings of the players, and eight will be wildcards. On that list is Novak Djokovic with his Serbian compatriot Olga Danilovic and Grigor Dimitrov and Aryna Sabalenka. On the surface, these are good teams. Dimitrov and Sabalenka are good friends, but in recent months, Djokovic and Sabalenka have struck a more public friendship. Fans would love to see this translate to mixed doubles action at the US Open. Consider the friendly banter the two had at the French Open stairs. You don’t have your song” 😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/Dk8Z8yKqDh — The Tennis Letter (@TheTennisLetter) June 3, 2025 Novak Djokovic after his victory: “How about that Sabalenka”? 😂 pic.twitter.com/xkmvrIb5b9 — Danny 🐊 (@DjokovicFan_) June 4, 2025 The pair also hit together at Wimbledon this week. We think these two had a little bit of fun during practice 😁#Wimbledon | @SabalenkaA | @DjokerNole pic.twitter.com/gEQvFUN5At — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) June 26, 2025 An Aryna Sabalenka And Novak Djokovic Team Would Be Imposing There are a lot of talented teams in the mix, but an Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic team brings more Grand Slams to the table. Also, neither has played much mixed doubles so the two accomplished singles players could add mixed doubles greatness to their impressive resumes. Neither is thinking about the US Open Mixed Doubles right now. Both are focused on Wimbledon. Sabalenka is 0-2 in Grand Slam finals this year, and she wants to change the narrative on that. Djokovic continues to seek the elusive and mind-boggling 25th Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon. Many believe Wimbledon is his best chance to achieve this level of tennis immortality. Watch Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships beginning June 30. ESPN will have live coverage for the two week event, and Tennis Channel will participate with analysis, reairing matches, and player interviews each evening during the two week fortnight.
