Willie Mullins

Horse racing punters had been ready to tuck into a stack of Willie Mullins Thurles runners today – with the Closutton handler having many top chances of ending up in the winners’ enclosure.

However, during the late morning the news that came out of the track was that most of today’s Willie Mullins Thurles runners WON’T RUN.

Willie Mullins Declares NINE (of his 10) Horses Non-Runners At Thurles

In midweek Willie Mullins pulled all his runners from the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day at Kempton and in a separate incident the top Irish trainer is at it again – this time on Thursday at Thurles.

Mullins had intended to run an army at the County Tipperary venue, but with Ireland not getting much rain in recent weeks the ground at the course remained quicker than normal for this time of the year.

The going description is stated as ‘good’ at Thurles and this is thought to be the reason behind the Willie Mullins runners being declared non-runners. In total he’s pulled out NINE horses (so far).

Horse racing fans had been looking forward to the likes of Mistergif, Nick Rocket and former Cheltenham Festival winner Appreciate It, who was going to face Fil Dor in a Listed Chase over 2m 6 1/2f.

However, due to Appreciate It now not running – plus Mullins also taking out Nick Rocket and Embassy Gardens from that same race – this means the 152-rated Fil Dor will face just one other rival – Hazelhatch Lady, who is rated 38lbs lower at 114.
