Liverpool could be down to three centre-backs for the majority of their title run-in following the latest injury update surrounding England international Joe Gomez.
Gomez lasted just ten minutes before he was forced off in Liverpool’s shock FA Cup defeat to Plymouth.
It kept him out of the chaotic 2-2 draw at Everton where James Tarkowski netted a last-gasp equaliser for the Toffees.
Gomez is Liverpool’s current longest-serving player but he has been plagued by injuries across his decade at the club.
The latest report suggests that Liverpool might only have Jarell Quansah as back-up to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for the majority of their title run-in.
Joe Gomez Injury Update: Defender Faces Surgery Decision
In the latest Joe Gomez injury update, the Times reported that he could miss a ‘significant chunk’ of Liverpool’s title run-in with a hamstring injury.
He will be sent for a test – with a decision to be made on whether he needs surgery.
Gomez has struggled to stay injury-free ever since he joined Charlton as a youngster. As per Transfermarkt he has suffered 13 different injuries – four of which kept him out for over 100 days.
He missed 224 days after suffering a cruciate ligament tear just two months into his first season at the club. He then missed an additional 126 days with Achilles tendon issues the following campaign.

Gomez then missed four months of Liverpool’s title-winning 2019-20 season due to an ankle surgery. His most significant injury was one sustained with England in November 2020 which kept him out for 232 days.
The 27-year-old had just returned from a hamstring injury when he was forced off against Plymouth.
This leaves Liverpool boss Arne Slot with just three centre-backs for the rest of the season. However, with the latest Gomez injury update, he could also look to use Wataru Endo as a makeshift defender.
The injury update to Gomez is another blow for Slot as his Liverpool side missed out on the chance to go nine-points clear at the top due to their 2-2 draw with Everton. They are next in action on Sunday against Wolves.
